Hi All,
What can anyone tell me about TARGA stuff? I came off my bike a few weeks ago and currently recovering from a broken ankle and elbow, cue lots of pics taking from my car mates. They all say to get more wheels, so, I have acquired a 206 gti which I was thinking of using on track until my mate mentioned this. He did say it was all quite secretive, but I can't find anything anywhere.

Anyone do it? Easy to get into? Haven't told the husband I've bought yet another car, but it will be road legal as it will have to be kept outside, and I could use it as a bad weather hack to keep the miles off the new scoob.

Cheers in advance. Emma.

Hi Emma

Targa rally's in the UK use sections that are on private land that are timed.
You need a car that is set up like a road rally car rather than a track car.
I don't know that much about that side of rallying but I would start by joining the British rally forum and look in the road rally section.
It's a good forum with lots of very knowledgeable people.
Also look on the NESCRO website I don't know where you are in the country but also good info.
List of events and entry costs I have found.

Solway £95
Shaw Trophy £85
Doonhammer £95
Bluestreak £75
Weardale £90
Lakedistrict £95

I have completed on the weardale ( now called wearside due to venue change) this is an all tarmac event that uses the test track at the Nissan plant in Sunderland. It is a very good event that I enjoy doing.

Hope that helps a bit.

Graeme

Cheers guys. Iguana, I sent you a message linked to an old thread, you can disregard it as the car will be road legal so no need for somewhere to keep it.

Looking into it now. I'm in Hampshire, so Sunderland is a bit of a trek, but not impossible if the events are worth it (an suitable time/rest days off work).

The Saltire Classic is a very good targa event too, the route is usually around Pitlochry with ~18 tests.

Bit soon, been for another X ray today and still got at least another 3 weeks in the cast on my ankle. Probably looking at the new year.

Ah, got a mate going to that, it was that which got me thinking about it. He's invited me along to have a look, but not sure I'll be driving by then.

Yes Targa is looking likely to be strong as a budget, grass roots motor sport, as Stage Rallying gets more and more expensive and road rallying harder and harder to square up with the public.

Chelmsford have been one of the more active clubs too, so you wouldn't go too far wrong joining them and getting involved.

The Saltire as mentioned is excellent, as are most of the NESCRO rounds, but much further north than you might like.
