Who the f**k does Button think he is? First of all he spouts off about “I’m not sure if we can win the championship this year” after BAR were banned for a couple of races. Err.. like you were in with a shot in the first place… I don’t think pal.

Now he’s saying “I’m not moving to another team unless they can win the world championship”. Excuse me? You haven’t won a race yet but your demanding that any team that may see fit to “grace themselves” with the privilege of having you drive for them needs to have a world championship winning car. Give me a break.

Am I the only one that thinks the furore surrounding Button’s debut in F1 a few years back has engendered an incredible arrogance in the guy? I mean Schumacher had it but at least he’s had the results to back it up with. I know the guy’s had some bad luck and not always been in the best car but I don’t see any exceptional talent in Button that I haven't seen in a host of other front-of-midfield hopefuls. I certainly don't see the spark of another Schumacher M or Senna there.

You didn’t see Alonso or Raikkonen (sp?) spouting off like this a couple of seasons ago when they were still less than competitive.

Anyway. Glad I got that off my chest

Stick buttong in the Renault or Benneton and you'd see him win races. Then again, same goes for a number of the drivers in F1 who aren't in with a shout in their normal drives.

Agreed but my point is you don't get the "number of other drivers" talking to the press about the negotiations for their next drive as if they're Shcumacher or Senna - with the possible exception of Villnueve (sp?)

Every driver with the drive necessary to win in F1 has an ego - Button is no exception. Is it any coincidence that he is refusing to deny the Ferrari rumours and also making such pointed statements at a time when he is 3 races away from the option in his contract being exercised by Frank Williams and on a weekend when the British press is bigging up their UK pin-up?...

.....I'd imagine that this option does not have a detailed financial plan and Button will be talking himself up as much as possible in order to secure the best deal for himself...

....all this assumes that he failed to negotiate a get-out based on Williams having a true works engine deal....which I believe he failed to do

I've had a read of the article on the BBC web site and Button seems to be answering a question quite fairly based on his links to Ferrari - he finishes it by stating he wants to be with the best team -- well thats not a shock I'm sure most drivers would be.

Button has done well this year - he has had one accident - on the same circuit that Alonso did. He has kept his head during all the BAR troubles while Sato currently seems to have had a nervouse breakdown.

Button's smartest move would be to stay with BAR Honda baring in mind his options. All drivers have ego's they need to, to succeed in the sport, Button is a definate winner - hopefully a world champion.

Wasn't the greatest move by JB turning up at Monaco a few years back with a bigger floating gin palace than his then boss Flav. I just hope he now has more switched on management /legal advisers than during the Williams fiasco. And I somehow doubt that Kimi is actually capable of spouting off, despite his clubbing exploits and flying crash helmet incident

It just sounds like someone who has total self belief and unless you have that you are never going to win anything.

Compare and contrast with DC who even made excuses before his scalextic battle at GFOS.

Is this the same JB who said he'd rather crash than be overtaken (Montreal/Schumacher)? Short memory as he was overtaken at Imola this year by . . .Schumacher!!

I think if he doesn't establish his team leader credentials he may end up like Coulthard and never be close to world champion . . . he seems to burn a lot of energy on poor contracts!

He should stay with BAR for 5 years and really have a go . . .

I think this is party due to the uk press, I mean where hae you read all the guff about button?

I'm sure if you looked in the national motorsport press of other drivers you find a lot of stories about them that we don't get here.

I think button has the potential, I'm just not sure he will realise it.

The same DC who has won 13 Grand Prix?

Button has never struck me as the sort of driver you'd bet on in a wheel to wheel situation, Kimi, Alonso and JPM you'd fancy against Schumacher, but Jenson?

And while we're on the subject of English BAR drivers, what's with the hype surrounding Anthony Davidson? Good test driver, but no real racing pedigree other than karting

I agree with what you say Digital, but then Prost won 3 titles and yet you wouldn't have bet on him in a wheel to wheel situation would you?

...and I also wonder just how good Ant Davidson is - he didn't shine in a Minardi did he?...but then neither did Wilson really and look what he's achieving in Champ Cars (or does that say more about the strength of the opposition?)

Funny you should say that, I remember Button's style being compared favourably to Prost's when he first entered F1 with Williams (oh, and Prost won 4 titles by the way )

I actually thought Justin Wilson did well with Minardi, he would consistently make up a huge number of places on the first lap of a GP. He pretty much blew away Mark Webber in F3000, so I don't think their stint together at Jaguar was representative - Jaguar never seemed capable of running 2 cars to an equal level.

Davidson was very much in the shadow of Sato in the latter's British F3 title season.

Apologies on Prost - of course you're right - and that's why I compared Button against him - identical driving style, not aggressive with other drivers....

I was also aware of how well Wilson did at the start of a race, but concluded that this was more to do with a "nothing to lose" attitude than anything else...he should have got more out of the Jaguar though, but then I saw Dario Franchiti test the car at Silverstone several years ago and he's no putz...but the car was an absolute dog...so who knows.

Anyway, it's good to see Wilson doing well in Champ Cars - just as well he didn't win the shootout for the A1 drive...

I thought that the A1 shootout was Firman, Rossiter, Lloyd and Kerr - with the last two winning the (single) drive.

Doubt that Wilson would have been interested - JP is firmly pushing his career in the States at the moment.

Sorry, my fault - confusing the two of them ...your facts are absolutely right on the winers.

Prost was pretty aggressive at Suzuka in 1989 when he effectively ran Senna off the road to claim the championship.

I wonder if Button would have done the same given the circumstances.

Well, considering that the oposition includes the likes of S. Bourdais, which is, at least, equal to best of them in F1...
