I am currently using fuel as a ballast in my race car and I need to know what weight a litre of petrol is. Can anybody help??

About 740g/l - I imagine it varies with RON, detergent content etc, too.

Alternatively...

Put container onto scales, note weight of container.

Add 1 litre of race fuel, note weight.

Subtract figure one from figure two and...

Hey presto, the weight of one litre of fuel.

Or am I missing something?

If using as ballast then surely water would be better as it is denser, hence 'heavier'. I litre weighs 1 kg so you would need less volume for the ballast.

i must admit that using fuel seems odd. not least because it is always in the same place and can slosh about if the tank isnt baffled.

perhaps something like lead would be easier as you could move it around the car to adjust handling on different ciruits as neceassary. Did the mini miglia racers not use to fill the front arches with lead to improve the turn in?
