Latest so far:

Nico Rosberg has been given a Williams seat.

Max Mosley is to be re-elected as FIA president as there are no opposing candidates at the forthcoming election. :grumpy: Sounds like a chip off the old block to me...

Biggest news is the 11th team appearing next year. Rumoured to be a Japanese-based outfit, word is it could be constructor/racer Dome Racing. Engines are coming from Honda, whom they already have a relationship with, and tyres are said to be coming from Bridgestone. Jean Alesi is being touted as team principal...

Anyone else got any gossip?

I think you may be confusing two stories doing the rounds - Alesi is tying up a deal involving his personal sponsor, Direxiv and McLaren. They're going to run MP4 21s in 2007 from the old McLaren factory at Woking. This deal is contingent upon it being a commercial success for McLaren.

Honda are courting a couple of Japanese teams - Aguri Suxuki and Dome, about runing a team for 2006, based in Arrows' old factory in Leafield. There are problems with this team insofar as they can't use this year's BAR chassis as the forthcoming V8 doesn't fit in it. The current Concorde Agreement doesn't allow teams to run cars that have not been "developed" by themselves - i.e. the Intellectual Property Rights for the chassis have to belong to that team.

I believe that at least one other team has challenged BAR's intended interpretation of the IPR rule and this could make it difficult for Honda to get the team off the ground in time for 2006.

I thought Johnny Lacey has been linked to the mcLaren "B" team rather than the all japanese effort.
Sato has been offered a drive with Midland but is waiting to hear from this Honda backed team before signing on the line...

Yes, Alesi has - what may be confusing the issue is the presence of his Japanese sponsor - Direxiv

Indeed you are right rubystone, thanks for clearing that up.

From what I have found, they are saying that this new Japanese outfit will appear in 2006, with Alesi's team waiting until 2007 to make a debut.

Yup, what I said earlier - Direxiv will "buy" 2006's MP4/ 21.

Looks like Honda may not get the team off the ground for next year after all, as I mentioned in a previous post on this topic...and for the reasons I thought it might founder - the Formula One commission has seen fit not to waive the requirement that a team must own the IPR and also either manufacture directly, or employ a (current non-F1) constructor to build it for them.

Presumably McLaren will run up against the same problem with Direxiv...unless they are able to prove that Direxiv are building the car at the old McLaren Woking facility.

Now at one stage earlier this year a friend in the F1 supply industry told me that Dallara had stopped development work on the Midland car (although he'd seen several tubs, which suggests it was well down the road) and sure enough, Jordan announced a few months later that they intended to launch an EJ15B (ie a modified version of the 15, nee 14, nee 13!!!)rather than roll out the Midland car mid-season as they originally intended.

If that situation is still the same, what's to stop Honda using the Dallara?...I uderstand it was engineered from the start to accept either V10 or V8, so that should not be a problem...but then Kolles is makin noises again about the Dallara, so perhaps that's all on again?...

Perhaps I should call Nick Fry
