as their first "Centre for Motorsports Excellence".

The fact that Paul Ricard is owned by Bernie Ecclestone is a complete coincidence.

Probably Bernie bigging himself up again. He's only 2foot 3inches you know, he auditioned for a part as an "Oompa Loompa" for the Willy Wonka film but got turned down - the camera could never pick him up...

Seriously though, have you seen Paul Ricard lately - it really is a seriously good track, I think they make more money from renting it out for manufacturer days than they ever would from an F1 GP. The Medical and Emergency facilities are reportedly first class.
(Not that I've ever used them!!!)

....and if they ever stage a GP there again (only a matter of time)...Toyota will walk it!

No question it's a good facility.
The problem is that either the FIA have no clue about all the apparent conflicts of interest, or they simply don't care. In either case, that appearance alone destroys the credibility of the one organisation that presumes to represent motorists and motorsports world-wide.

Yes, but doen't Bernie have either a controlling stake or interest in a number of current G.P. tracks??? At least with Paul Ricard there is unlikely to be G.P. there for the forseeable future, which is a shame because Magny-Cours is crap!

The point being that surely those tracks which B.E. owns, and which run current Grands Prix, should be the one's singled out as an example of 'conflict of interest'

I'm pretty sure BCE and his web of companies owns no other GP tracks at all with the exception of Ricard

Sadly ironic if you remember Elio de Angelis.

It was also named a "safety standard" type thing. It might be safe but with so much wide run off its not so challenging to drive at the limit...

It is hard to imagine that Paul Ricard is the only circuit in the world that qualifies, or is close to qualifying, for this status.
Even if ultimately they were going to include PR, why oh why can't they at least pretend]/i] that they were exercising a bit of objectivity by naming another circuit first?

"Centre for Motorsports Excellence".

What does that mean?
