I kid you not....
For F1's most ridiculous press release yet:

"Pop music mogul Simon Fuller has been recruited by Honda Racing F1 to reshape the team's image"

refer to autosport.com if you want to read more.

My take on this is that its a wonderfull opportunity for Jenson Button to carry on the crest of his publicity wave, without ever achieving a win or fastest lap (ok I could be wrong but lests see!) but retaining his image.

All we need now is Davina McCall on the commentary team and George Galloway and Pete Burns on the pit (arguing about what rubber to use).

Hiroshito Honda (excuse my spelling) meanwhile turns in his grave.

Why are you so suprised? All F1 teams have a deal like this going on, they just dont make it so public. Its to boost the whole image of the team and the sport which is much needed when they loose they tobacco sponsorship next season.

So are you saying Frank Wiliams or Ron Dennis could be using Simon Cowell to get an edge this year?

Some how I doubt it.

GP.com said:
The deal is being lauded by F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone who told The Guardian newspaper that this is "exactly the direction the teams should be taking to broaden the entertainment and sporting appeal of Formula 1 to a global audience."

How apt is it that the term "spin" can be used to such effect with motor racing.

JB "I... I guess..."
SF "Maybe a name change"
JB "Eh?"
SF "I'm just bouncing ideas around, but what about.... JENSON BECKHAM!!!"

No, but they do use company's to help boost the teams image. Just because Honda are using someone who is well known for pop idol etc. He is actually a very succesful man and knows what sells. And the end of it, it will be BAR with the increased merchandise sales giving them more money to spend on the car giving them a better chance to fight with the larger teams.

I'll tell you want Honda want, what they really, really want...

Does that mean Jenson is going to continue to be a 'Wannabe?' Or will he 'Take That' image change and be World Champion??? We can all 'pray' I suppose...

I'll get me coat.

All it is is a way of getting Honda some more column inches in the national media. So they paid Fuller an exhorbitnent amount and told him that he's the new style guru to the team. And ergo the nationals and lifestyle mags lap it up like warm milk.

If Button won a race or two his "image" would improve dramatically.

and The "Pop Idol" concept

As it happens, I'd contend that of all the teams, the old BAR had by far the most "yoof" oriented image over the past 5 years.
