Hi all,
I gave marshalling a go on Saturday at Oulton Park for the Britcar and although it was cold I had a great time! It was a good way to start my Marshalling duties, although the other Marshalls who had been there a while told me it wasn't the best way to start - I still loved it.
Just posting this to say, that if anybody fancies it, or is even mildly interested in doing it, I can't urge you enough to give it a go. You'll have a good time watching the racing (and sometimes being a part of the action!) and you'll meet some true enthusiasts.
Recommended.
A big thanks to Ian (Loose Lips) and Nadine for making me feel very accomodated.

Glad to hear you enjoy it! Keep up the good work, with out people like you and all the other marshals out there, I would not be able to go racing, so thank you
! We don’t really get a chance to thank you lot at the end of the day
which is a shame because, in a way, you are there to look after us when we don’t drive properly
Cheers

Interesting. Will have a read of the www.msauk.org site and have a think about it
Also www.marshals.co.uk/ is good for info.
You'll be welcome anywhere really, you could lose 2 fingers on one hand and still be able to count the number of oversubscribed meetings on it (GP, Goodwood, errr).

Cheers Mike, You don't have to thank us- just give us a wave on the slowing down lap thats thanks enough for us.
If anyone from oop north would like to try a day marshalling at Oulton Park then drop me a line and I can organise it for you.
Cheers

www.volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk/ is the best site for info as it was recently launched by the MSA. If anyone in the south west is interested in marshalling at sprints and hillclimbs, drop me a mail.

Yep, i always do that

Always good to hear that someone else has tried and liked Marshaling, the more the merrier.
I'll say what I normally tell newbies, don't be afraid to ask a question, be prepared for all weathers, even in the middle of a heat wave
, There are manyvaried jobs to be done from Pits and Startline, Assembly, and Course. You'll be welcome anytime.
But most importantly, Have FUN
Have a look on tenths, it has a Marshals Forum, any will be happy to answer questions etc.

I'll add in.
Had my first day at Harewood last month... and thoughly enjoyed it
So much so, i'm marshalling at various events at Oulton, Harewood, Loton Park, Aintree...
...thing is i'd be going to watch anyway, so might as well make myself useful! Missus doesn't mind as we can camp at Harewood and others, so she isnt stuck in a car, or trackside, and can relax and potter about, watch some till shes bored then do other things... works for the both of us. Quiet life!

Hi, Glad you had a good first experience!!!
Just remember, There are no stupid question (Just stupid answers!!!)
Did you manage to do a training day at the begining of the year?
Just remember, always look after yourself first, fellow Marshal's second, and the drivers third, your no good if you become the incident yourself!
Maybe see you at Combe one day!
PS try Ten-Tenths too, there is a very good Marshal's section on there too

That seems to be the phrase throughout Marshalling... yet to havea stupid answer... or maybe i'm stupid and didnt recognise the stupidity of the answer
one the blokes on post added into ... look after yourself first, then us... then the public... the driver is the daft bugger who paid to be in that position... so... get to him last.
Signed up to ten tenths... turns out one of the blokes i was posted with at harewoods already on there

Good on you, I started marshalling last year, primarily at Thruxton. Really enjoy it, the buzz you get at the start of the first race of the day is pretty good! If you do decide to take it up, make sure you get the signature card. I met several people who had started at the same time that didn't know they existed. Removes the novice from the start of your name!!
Am intending to start doing Combe meetings probably next year.

Great photos Paul.
Good idea to have a Marshals page, makes us feel really appreciated.
I'll make sure the marshals know about it.!!
Cheers
