Shame that Prost will not be driving. I thought he would be the most likely to give Mansell a challenge. Still, Fittipaldi pushed him quite hard in the race last year.

Anyone know who will be televising the races this year?

Oh dear. Just read in Autocar that Sky Sports have got the broadcasting deal and that the races will not be shown on terrestrial.

Not so sure. I hear he has had trouble finding qualified people to engineer his car.....

So long as it is not wet in Qatar ... which I don't suppose it would be.

Rene sets out on a demo lap for the bedraggled punters on the Saturday of the Renault Weekend at Donington Park last September. Here he is approaching McLeans.

The it went quiet a few seconds later ...

Help arrived. I assume the medical car was sent out to ascertain whether he had some sort of brain fade.

And off they went to clean the thing up ready for the next day.

Frank Montagny drove the demo on the Sunday.

Hmm.

No Alan Jones then ...

I can't remember who was in the the inaugural race - have they lost anyone else?

Ah! Thanks. I was sure there was someone missing. As I recall Jacques was not looking too comfortable on the day.

Should Rene need welding or fibreglass work you should be able to handle that as well...

Mansell leads opening Masters practice
Nigel Mansell set the fastest time in opening practice for this weekend's Grand Prix Masters event in Qatar.
Mansell, who won the first ever event for ex-F1 drivers 45 years of age and over last year in South Africa, turned a top lap of 1:49.315 around the new Losail International Raceway.
Stefan Johansson was next fastest, 3-100ths of a second behind Mansell, while Christian Danner was third.
Fifteen of the sixteen drivers scheduled to take part in this weekend's race were on hand for today's practice, including Andrea de Cesaris, Ricardo Patrese, Eddie Cheever, Patrick Tambay and Emerson Fittipaldi.
The drivers all compete in cars setup and built by Delta Motorsports in England and are powered by identical 80-degree 3.5-litre V8 Cosworth engines which are based on the successful XB Indycar powerplant. The engines are capable of producing in excess of 600 horsepower and reach speeds of close to 200 miles per hour.
