Very sad that someone who had volunteered their time should be taken in this manner. Marshalls are the lifeblood of the sport, and are out there in all types of shitty weather just for the love of the sport.
My condolences to his next-of-kin.
On a more practical note, do MSV or the MSA have an insurance policy to take care of this man's immediate family? It would be even worse if the family had lost their main wage-earner because of this accident.

It was a bike meeting so the MSA won't be involved, they are the governing body for car racing. I imagine that the ACU (bike governing body) have a similar insurance set up for bike racing as the MSA do for car racing.
However, the accident happened on Friday and (I understand) was a track/test day rather than a race meeting, I don't know the deal for bikes but with car track days these are not governed by the MSA as they are not race meetings. The marshals are employed by either the track day organiser or the circuit and are paid a small amount rather than for "normal" race meeting marshalling, they don't sign the MSA declaration and as employees of the circuit or the track day company would be covered by whatever insurance is put in place by those companies.
As I say, I don't know the set up for bikes but I would imagine that it is broadly similar and that as a track day the marshal was technically "employed" by someone.

The Marshalls for the Bikes are organised by www.racesafe.co.uk/ -
And the test day was a BSB test session organised by MCRCB - and I believe the Marshals where all volenteers one the day.

Do you know that or are you basing that on the posts on 10/10's? The set up for test sessions is usually different but I'm interested in finding out what the set up is.
Yes from 10/10ths

But weither he was a Volunteer or being paid... at the end of the day - a man was not there at the end of the day to go home to his wife and kids...

It was a test day organised by MCRCB. I stand to be corrected on this, but I believe it was to all intents & purposes equivalent to a BSB race meeting in organisational & marshalling terms, i.e. marshals were Racesafe volunteers, not circuit employees. I understand that the public were charged for admission.
AT BSB level the organisation is somewhat complicated as the ACU has in effect delegated responsibilty to MCRCB. As for marshals being 'employed' by Racesafe, Racesafe is just another marshalling organisation, albeit with its own licensing system separate from the ACU's.......bike racing politics make the Middle East look comprehensible! Racesafe marshals operate as volunteers, just like the rest of us.

LS - you've quoted Dave's answer to my question on tenths that was some time after your post on here!! Read my post on 10/10's - I'm interested in the structure of organising bodies etc, I'm a lawyer - I was trying to establish whether you "knew" the truth or were just repeating the previous comments on tenths about the Racesafe involvement.
I've been marshalling a long time and I'm not getting at someone being more or less valuable.
I suggest we avoid hijacking this thread any further.
