Locost racing in North of England and Scotland
Discussion
A friend is at the moment building a Locost with tha aim of racing it (probably next season).
I want to go and watch him racing it so I had a look at the calendar for the Locost racing.
From what I can see the most northerly circuit that Locost championship goes to is Cadwell Park.
Is there any reason why they do not do a round at somewhere north of that such as Croft, Langbaugh, Knockhill, etc. ?

it is a common problem with the motor clubs i'm afraid. most motor clubs are southern based, as are the competitors, therefore when they do occaisionally run an event oooop north, no one turns up.
that's basically the reason. most of the club events run at places like oulton or croft cater for localish racers, eg xr challenge, or the ddmc sports and saloons.
also most race circuits are based around the midlands, south east, therefore, and most of the uk population is also, so its a kind of self fulfilling prophecy.
i do have some sympathy for you coz i used to live oop north until the beginning of last year, but now i'm not so bothered as i have 2 race tracks within an hour, and 5 within 2 hours.

The way to get around the problem is for the various race championships to run rounds at other tracks such as Croft, Knockhill, Pembrey, etc.
Then competitors will take part otherwise they will risk losing points to their rivals.
And once the various classes are showcased at these tracks then interest should increase.

you'd be assuming that everyone who competes does all the rounds, that might be the case in the prof championships, but in clubland, there will be a hard core of about 15 drivers that'll do all the rounds, and 15-20 who do the rounds that suit them. so therefore only the hardcore will travel to knockhill, which will make the race unviable ( i think the clubs want a minimum of 16 entries for each race to break even.
Unfortunately as suggested above Cadwell provides a long journey for the vast majority of us as it is, and it seems the majority of competitors are coming from the midlands, south area. Hence the championship rounds are organised there.
This does of course exclude the Dudley family who travel to and from every meeting in the year from Scotland in their bus! Have a word with them and perhaps they can fit you in somewhere!

Don't know what you guys are complaining about! For a start it isn't possible for anywhere to be "a long journey" in England! You lot are spoiled; HEAPS of tracks, hillclimbs, airfields etc within a few hours of anywhere. My local track is about 1.5Hrs tow away, the next nearest is about 3 days, then another day or 2 to the next...

Travelling, if you live in Scotland is just part of the fun. If you cannot be bothered to travel then you will miss out on racing at the big Southern circuits, Brands, Silverstone, Thruxton and Castle Combe. I have always seemed to have lived at the wrong end of the UK but going away racing for the weekend can be a lot of fun
