Shake up of technical personnel at Honda
Discussion
I think the horse has already bolted and they won't catch up with it this year.
Nakamato named tech chief in Honda reshuffle.
Honda has promoted Shuhei Nakamoto to the role of senior technical director in a shake-up of its technical staff.
Nakamoto, who was previously the engineering director for Honda Racing Development, has been moved into the role after a difficult start to the season for the team with the British Grand Prix last time out proving to be nothing short of a disaster – with Jenson Button only qualifying 19th before retiring early on and Rubens Barrichello failing to score for the fourth time this season.
With pressure coming from Japan for the team to start producing results, the decision was taken to promote Nakamoto – who has been involved with Honda's F1 involvement for the past six years – with Honda Racing CEO Nick Fry confirming that the decision had been taken to try and secure the success Honda craves.
"Honda has set itself some very tough targets for its Formula One team and made a considerable investment in order to achieve them, so we have to ensure that we do everything necessary to pursue those objectives," he said.
"Shuhei Nakamoto has an excellent record of achievement with Honda and we have confidence that his appointment, together with our investments at the Brackley HQ, will help us towards our goal."
What the decision means for the future of current technical director Geoff Ellis remains to be seen with a statement issued by Honda stating that 'discussions are currently taking place regarding his future role with the team'.
Technical replacement is one thing but the top of the list for changing for me would be the one who handles the race strategy.
