Yep he certainly looks good but then a lot of kids do... and BMW have really been milking the publicity available from Friday practices with fresh engines and new tyres. Kubica has shown well so far but he's far from proving himself at this level. If he's consistantly matching and beating Heidfeld by the end of the year it would be fair to say he has a bright future.
Ultimately its almost impossible to say who's got "it" until they step up into an F1 race seat. Heikki Kovalainen has been a fantastic test driver for Renault this year but you never know how this is going to transalate into a race situation - he'll either grow into a race winner or just show flashes of quality and fade away.
Vettel certainly has the potential to be a star but so do half a dozen youngsters each year. I think Hamilton is the stand-out driver currently and will go onto big things but from the rest of this years junior drivers I can't pick anyone who looks the real-deal yet.

I'd put my money on Nico Rosberg as title contender in several years time. It's only his first year in F1, but he's close to Mark Webber's performance. If he had gotten a reliable car this year, I think he could have cracked the top ten in the drivers' standings. All that is lacking is experience and a good team.
If Lewis Hamilton turns out to be as good as all the hype, then we might see a good rivalry between him and Rosberg. Same for Heikki and Piquet, if they also deliver on their hype.

As magic torch pointed out the minimum weight of the car includes the driver: they will just remove some ballast to compensate for a heavier driver. However, it is preferable to have everything (including the driver) as light a possible and then make it up with ballast because ballast can be placed wherever is optimum for weight distribution - i.e. very low down and towards the middle. Also, the smaller the driver the less room he takes up in the car.

i/e where the driver sits?
I wouldn't think that freeing up room in the cockpit is as useful as having the driver's head lower down and as far out of the airflow over the car as possible, im(humble)o.
...edited to get my reply somewhere near on topic - Vettel / Rosberg / Kovalainen / Piquet et al; one fast lap does not maketh a Michael Schumacher, but it's not a bad start.

The stand out thing about Vettel for me, was when he was karting ten years ago. He was a particularly quick driver, but the most impressive thing was how he dealt with defeats. If his kart failed, he crashed, or was beaten straight up, he used to just shrug his shoulders and say tomorrow's another day. It was a very mature attitude to have, and very reminiscent of Jensons early days. He wasn't a spoilt brat who's father owned a haulage company or some such. I think he has the makings of a great if he's supplied with a good team. I don't think the car needs to be the best on the grid, as he's proved he can outperform a not so good car. He's a nice kid and I wish he wasn't German. I wish him all the best ( through slightly gritted teeth).

I live in Germany, and the talk of the office this morning is will he be able to beat Schumacher next year!!Most of the Germans I know don't rate Vettel at all, and MS is still their God
