Safety Car Endurance Racing was innovatively incorporated into last weekends 24 hour event at Silverstone. Perhaps only the irepressible Mr Tucker could have come up with such a surprise, but there is a question over the legality of the Silverstone Safety Car Team: it appears that, although they carefully complied with the maximum 3 hour stint rule, they also changed their entire car (to another one) in contravention of EERC rules.
Being a single team entry, this is another setback for the innovative Mr Tucker as his “Breakfast Meeting” experiment with the 50 strong Porsche field was poorly received by the single (but unconscious) spectator and the disorientated seagull who watched the event.
It had originally been thought that the impact of the 50 odd Porsches, some of them with over 700bhp, being released from the Red Light at 9.00 am may have been a suitable reveille. However, it appears that the competitors did not agree; angrily hurtling around the circuit and providing some of the most exciting and dramatic racing of the weekend.
As was overheard of a 24 hour competitor before the Saturday start "Yes, I slept like a log until your bloody Porsche race started!".
