Poor old Schumi
Discussion
Was it just me or did anyone feel sorry for Micheal in Brazil?
Dont get me wrong Schumi is most certainly not my favourite driver ever (Ayrton's got that title wrapped up)
but i wanted Micheal on the podium to hand over the reigns to Alonso properly.
Also how amazing was his control of that oversteer just after the puncture?
Great to have JB on the podium, imagine a 1st Jenson, 2nd Alonso, 3rd Schumi that would have been awesome.
You just know that if it were Massa who had the puncture there would be no way in hell he could have cut his way through the pack like Micheal did, great effort.

Brilliant, wasn't it?
I don't see how you can be impressed by someone catching a slide with the aid of about the most sophisticated traction control setup on the planet.

Even with TC on, it was a mighty good catch by Michael.
Schumacher's drive yesterday showed why he was 7 times world champion - because he drives to win every time, even when he can't.

So the reaction times and opposite locks were for show then, the computer was doing it for him?

Traction control does ffff all when you have a flat.
Traction control will control the slippage to give the maximum amount of forward motion compared to wheelspin. This is why you see them during practice at the end of the pitlan testing Launch Control so to gain data on how much grip there is and what slippage gives them best forward motion.

Class, pure class.
Come on Michael, get in that Mercedes, you know you want to.
In reply to castex's comment,
next time you perfectly control a ferrari F1 car with a
puncture let me know because until that time youve got a very
slim point mate.
Schumi displayed incredible car control in that moment which
none of us can ever even imagine so respect his ability and
forget about TC. Although i dislike his methods Schumi is a genius and
im so pleased and privelleged to watch him race in F1, never will there be a more complete racing driver.

I have enormous respect for MS' ability, and can remember him doing this sort of thing before TC took over.
I take the point you're all making about the flat tyre rendering the electronics next-to-useless, it's just that when you do see them doing the computer-controlled tankslapping on the warmup lap they get to such angles with apparent impunity, like it's the easiest thing in the world.
He probably did well to catch it, but I'm sure he had at least some help nonetheless. That grey area concerning the degree of help involved makes today's racing much the duller for me.
Sunday's was a truly awesome drive all the same, and I miss him already.

Refreshing to see a thread that isn't regurgitating the usual "MS is evil" and "the F in FIA stands for Ferrari".
The thing that particularly impressed me in his earlier F1 days was his ability in the wet. Reducing the grip was a great leveler of the cars' ability and it just highlighted his driving as he kept the car balanced closer to the edge and longer than anyone else in the field. IIRC there was one race where he stayed out on slicks, thus giving him the benefit of not having to pit twice to swap to wets and then back to slicks, and managed to defend his position on the wet laps in spite of his lack of grip. IIRC he took a load of grief for it, but the fact that he could defend the line in spite of the car slewing all over the place when the chasing cars should have had a huge advantage is testament to his guts and skill. He also used to slice through slow traffic far better than his opposition (Hill in particular).

I have to agree I am not a fan of Schumachers, some of his tactics have been more than "questionable", however races like Sunday really make you appreciate the skill of the guy, you can't imagine Fishicella (sp) or most of the other guys doing that, they would have struggled from 10th let alone 10th -> nearly lapped -> 4th. Got to give the guy the credit for his driving talent, its just a shame that his "morals" and the Ferrari polotics over shadow it.

yea if only, but oh well, i think they should have got him up on the podium afterwards though, its that bl00dy brizilain director again!

You'd have thought that Ferrari would have let him collect the trophy for constructor winner? But then again, it was Ross Brawn's last GP (at least for a time while he goes off and plays golf for a year).
