One year ago today, the first Englishman to win a World Rally Championship (2001), Richard Burns, passed away.
I had the privilege of meeting and talking to him at the NEC Autosport show in the early 90's, and I can understand why so many people felt such a great loss when he died. He really was a decent chap, and the world is a less rich place without him. He is, for me, a member of a very small group of racing drivers whom I hold in high regard and remember fondly.

Richard Burns World Rally Champion 2001. Gone, but never forgotten.

Thanks for the post, I was thinking the other day it must be a year. The RB display at Goodwood earlier this year had me welling up.

It is a sad day indeed. I thought the papers would have marked the anniversary, but I haven't been able to find anything about him today ~ it's like everyone has forgotten. I've left an anniversary message on the memorials page of his website, and I'll be raising a glass or two to him this evening.

What a guy. bow

There was a short feature in the Sun, about The RB Trophy for Rally GB.
