In Drag racing, what this the difference between a win, and a wholeshot win? I was watching on 5US last night and I couldnt work it out. Seems like a good thing though.

Hazarding a guess (I won't use google as it makes threads boring apparently , I would assume that a wholeshot win is when you have the fastest reaction time, first off the line and first to the finish line?

Just a guess though, I standby to be corrected.

A 'holeshot win' is when the winning vehicle leaves the startline before the opponents. As the timing system is independant in each lane, and only starts when the car moves, it is quite common that a car will leave the startline first and cross the finish line first, despite the opponent actually running a quicker time. This is called 'winning on a holeshot', and as it demonstrates that superior reaction time has won over a faster time, it is particularly satisfying for the driver.
Where the car which leaves second manages to run so much quicker than the car which has gained the holeshot that the startline advantage is negated and the late leaving car wins, this is called 'driving around' the opponent.
