ive used compy car ins in the past for a track day - cost was about 120 quid (from memory)

dont bother insuring the car on race days - its costs enough to race as it is!

Race insurance - is for Millionaires or Fools that like to through money away.

When you work it out over say 10 years add the big vs minor prangs that you might have through this time vs number of event and the cost of insuarance for each the insurance is and absolute joke. 2- 3 time entry fee is UTTER COCK.

Utter cock it may be, but to be fair it was a specific question.

I totally agree it's a waste of money, but some sponsors or team owners (e.g. for pay drivers) insist on it.

Getting race insurance is essentially placing a bet that you are going to crash. I like to call bluff on the crash and have saved very many thousands by not having race insurance. (Famous last words, etc)

At club level then race insurance probably is a waste of time and money, however in the more professional classes it's a season saver, for example there was a nasty F.Renault accident in testing at Sillystone yesterday, the driver is in hospital but as ok as you can be after a 5th gear smack backwards into a concrete wall, thankfully the cost of a new gearbox, back axle, undertray, wing, bodywork etc etc will be mostly covered. The same team had a car off at Snett mid season, and the cost to repair the damage to that was £12k in parts, thankfully the car was insured and it only cost the driver the initial excess.
