Lenham Hurst GT

What can anyone tell me about the Lenham Hurst GT? 10 manufactured on the 60's.......What engines did they run? How many are still about racing? In this country? Did thay have much success in their day?

If the car you're referring to is the same as a Lenham Le Mans then I was beaten by one in one of the Tunbridge Wells Sprint Championship meetings at Lydden Hill this year. Was running a trick KAD A-series motor and had no trouble beating our mini.

I think the Lenham Le Mans is MG Midget based? THe Lenham Hurst was built by a Peter Hurst, mid-engined space frame with a body that I think was supplied by Lenham. It looks a little like a Dulon or a Costin Amigo.

"Built in 1968 buy Roger Hurst, and is known as the Hurst GT. The car was raced in1969 buy Roger and Ray calcutt and won the STP Motor sport championship in that year. The car was crashed midseason and subsequently built into a second chassis which was ready for a customer and continued the 1969 season. At the end of the year the car was turned into a spider version as the rules changed to allow open cars.

The second shassis is owned by a guy in Sweden. This chassis was then resurrected and sold to a french customer named Lebrouchier (a wrestler) for the 1970 French season. The car was crashed heavily at Monthlery and went to lenham sister company Socloto Darnval, The car bought the car from them in 1992 and has been the subject of a very slow but detailed restoration It was then raced in 2002. It won its class at every event in 2005.
The gear box was rebuilt buy Colin Denyer last winter. The engine was rebuilt by George Wadsworth and has done two races since. The Koni shockabsorbers where new last year, the fuel tank is aluminium and doesn't need a certificate.The car is a delight to drive and very predictable. Price £70,000"
