According to www.f1-live.com Honda will start next season without a title sponsor. According to the ever-grinning Nick Fry, the car will not just be covered in Honda logos but will be a whole new marketing concept.

So, any ideas what it will be?

I'm thinking along the lines of somesort of holgraphic effect where different logos can be viewed from different angles...

scratchchin This worries me, Honda potentially have their best shot at a title ever this year, but they'll need money to make that happen. Teams who spend a year without a title sponsor tend to scrape by with mediocre results until they get one. I just hope Honda HQ is willing to open the big chequebook.

I can't imagine Honda would have trouble snagging a new sponsor. The other major teams have managed it over the past year/off-season, how come Honda have missed out?

They obviously have something up their sleeve, as they are making a big deal about saying @marketing concept@ and that it will be different.

Apparently Fry said that there wasn't "any space left on the car for next year"

Which would indicate that they're not running short on a sponsor(s)

It's probably hot air - I remember Scott Speed ramping up the Toro Rosso 2006 car's livery. Wasn't anything special rolleyes

Saying that, knowing Fry, he's probably convinced them to put a massive pic of his grinning face on the engine cover, just to remind everyone what it looks like

They hired style "guru" Simon Fuller. Isn't he the Simon who in BC (before Cowell) was managing and styling the Spice Girls?
Maybe the car will have lots of fake bits on it, look good in pictures but can't perform live?

Bit more on it here:-

There is much chatter at the moment about Honda colour schemes for next year and indeed about why the team is currently running in plain black. The explanation is very simple. The deal with Lucky Strike has come to an end and the team is in a period without sponsorship. In the case of McLaren the team has been known to paint the cars orange but Honda decided that plain black was a lot less effort. Obviously there is something different in the pipeline for next year and it is fair to speculate that this is probably something to do with marketing guru Simon Fuller, who was taken on last year to give the team an image wash and brush up. It has often been assumed that the white car with the red roundel would remain as this was similar to the livery used by Honda in the 1960s but new thinking - something Honda likes - may throw that out of the window.

Fuller's creative work in music, film and TV, including managing Annie Lennox, the Spice Girls and the Beckhams, not to mention creating the hugely successful TV show Pop Idol, has been innovative and as he has no background in the sport it would not be a surprise to see some fresh thinking.

The team is saying that there is no sponsorship space available on the car next year but previously the team has always argued that it did not want sponsorship to obscure the fact that this was a Honda operation and that the budgets come from R&D and not from marketing. In the world of Honda R&D the big thing these days is anything environmentally-friendly.

There have already been clues with Nick Fry saying that the team may have solar panels fitted on all its trucks and motorhomes (not to mention the factory) next year as the company demonstrates its latest solar technology. Honda recently set up Honda Soltec Co., Ltd., which will produce and sell the next-generation of thin film solar cells. While one might speculate that the cars might run with solar panels, this might be a little too radical but that does not mean that the team will not choose some other ecological theme. Green, perhaps.

Great. Just what the sport needs - another spinmeister who's perfected the art of pretending nothing is something.

Maybe it will be a RBR style campaign with 'guest advertisers'. Getting folk to pay for a 1-race ad campaign for the next big thing (like Star Wars/Superman etc was for RBR).

Honda's TV advertising for the last few years has been pretty clever with their "can hate be great" and the Accord parts dominoes advert etc. Maybe they've dreamt up something similar for the car.

How about super skinny LCD panels on the car - changing the adverts every 10 minutes! If Bernie had a fit about the Lucky Strike & 555 dual branding imagine what he'd say about a TV screen on a car
