There used to be up until this year, but I guess with the increased restrictions on testing there isn't the demand for it from the teams anymore. There was due to be one in September as well but it appears to have been cancelled.
Although its nice to be free, personally I dont think a tenner is that bad is it? You're still using the circuit's facilities by being there (car parks, footpaths, rubbish bins etc) and I assume that by opening the gates to the public there are automatically additional costs involved for Silverstone to make sure people are safe, not to mention public liability insurance etc....

ut they charge £££ for the main event! so *FREE* would be a nice gesture on there part, as with anything in the UK we are being ripped off.

You can view the testing from the Luffield Complex and Pits Straight, admission is £10 per adult, children 15 and under are free of charge.

Maybe free entry to the testing IF you buy a GP ticket wouldnt be a bad gesture, but I suspect that 90% of those that attend testing don't go to the GP anyway, so you could ask why should money from GP tickets subsidise a free test session for others?
I dont think anyone can call a tenner a rip-off though, if you decide to go you'll spend more on fuel and sandwiches than the entry fee!

Exactly, GP weekend, they're raking in atlest 200 quid a head, plus all the food/drink they buy at silly prices. They don't need to charge for admission to testing, they just saw how popular it was at the £ signs started appearing in their eyes...

They aren't though are they, virtually every year we hear how the BRDC are on the verge of losing the GP because it isn't financially viable for them, so they are hardly raking in loads of profit! You can mostly blame Bernie for the extortionate prices, if he didnt demand so much for the franchise and also demand so many circuit upgrades each year then the ticket price would be a lot lower.

To be frank, people don't watch Club Racing because most "fans" think the Motorsport season begins & ends with the GP weekend at Silverstone.
Personally i'd much rather spend the cash a GP weekend would cost on visitng several Club / Britcar / F3> etc events.
As for the F1 tests, being restricted to Luffield & the Pit Straight sucks, i like to have a good walk around if i'm paying for the privelege

i like it that way, plenty of space at castle combe for the rest of us!
Me too, but the circuits also need bodies through the gates to make meetings viable. Many of them survive on BTCC & BSB weekends and the smaller meets will lose money or break even if they're lucky.
