ITV still can't get it right

At last F1 has entered the 21st century and we now have widescreen coverage. Pity ITV can't be bothered to create separate graphics for 4:3 and 16:9. So now we have a nice wide pic but with the graphics 1/3 of the way across the frame. Also as the text is '4:3 safe', it is too small for 16:9 on a normal 4:3 TV (mine is 28"
Same problem with A1 coverage.
I like widescreen even on my old TV, so now I have to set the Sky box for 4:3 to watch F1 or I can't read the text. Then change it back afterwards. Grr.
Also I'm sure the session marker/timer at the top middle of the pic has moved down so now it blocks the view of from the high on-board camera.
And why is the Cock still there ? Is it bloody Que-bit-zer or Cube-ick-er ?

The digital picture is broadcast as an anamorphic 16:9 image and all the receiver does (if set to 4:3 mode) is crop the edges of the image off. If the picture was broadcast with the graphics down the edge the cropping would just remove them. ITV don't broadcst separate images for 4:3 or 16:9.

There is no reason why ITV could not place the graphics 16:9 safe for the digital feed and keep a 4:3 graphic for terrestial. A good compromise would be 14:9, which the BBC have been transmitting for some years. If you want to watch 4:3 then watch analogue terrestial. My point is that most people want to watch widescreen and the graphics are too small and in the way.

Yes there is, because as mentioned above the graphics are put on at source, ie by that particular GP's host broadcaster, or in this case Bernie's tribe, not by ITV. The only time ITV may have control over these is at the British GP, but I still suspect they are told where and how to put the graphics on screen, so there is no variation from race to race.

Are you talking about when they're in the commentary booth 5 minutes before the race?
Erm - why try to crane a boom mic and cram its operator into a room which is obviously 6' x 6' x 8? That's just thick! He's using his mike because if someone's holding a mic it's fücking pointless to use a different one.
They explained TWICE during the race that his name is KOO-BEE-TZA but that he liked KOO-BEE-KA because it "sounded faster" - why were the no complaints about "Schuey" or "Olive" or "Jense" or "JV" or "Tora" or any of the other 'pet' names that MB and even Murray have used?

Same problem with A1 coverage. Buy a better TV.
If 4:3 was legible on a 14" and isn't legible on your 28", you have problems.

Well the honda sponsor bit makes the adverts slightly better. But when the race is on during normal hours I cant see ITV sticking with 1 or 2 adverts during the break
Since I've had a new tele for a week now I noticed that most graphics and captions appeared to be formatted 4:3 friendly. I guess enventually there will come a time when they decide to display the graphics properly in 16:9.
I was suprised when the France vs Scotland match appeared to be transmitted 4:3. I guess the match cams were a french feed to BBC but why no 16:9?

They were probably still 4:3 cameras.
