A 250cc gearbox superkart against a touring car, that's a bit like putting a Greyhound up against a Bulldog. Putting the Kart against another single seater like a Formula 3 car might have been a better comparison.

A 250 gearbox kart would still blitz a F3 car. Man they are quick - they don't (seem to) slow down for corners on the big circuits!

Hello a race track here in new zealand that races superkarts has the lap record over all other classes the only machine to beat the kart time was the brittan motorbike.

Are you sure it would? I've just looked on www.superkart.org.uk for some times that could be used for a comparison and the 250cc Superkarts run on the Silverstone National circuit, the short 1.6 mile circuit. I couldn't find some F3 times but could find some times from the slower Formula Renault cars on the same circuit.

Silverstone National circuit (1,6miles)
250cc Superkart - fastest lap - Stefan Malm (MSA British Superkart round 2006) - 56.530s
Formula Renault - fastest lap - Alex Storckenfeldt (2005 time) - 54.714

And Formula Three's are faster than FR.

I know, looked at Castle Combe and Oulton Park as well. I don't know the class structure with the karts but it seems F3 are around 5 seconds quicker a lap. Not to say that the karts are slow of course!

I'm assuming not at all...

but would it stand ANY chance around a track (just for shits and giggles, lets say tskuba) against a F1 car?

No, it would get obliterated.

F1 cars lap Silverstone round the full GP circuit in about 1:17.

Did you read the post above? Not nearly as fast as F3 so it would be embarassed by F1.

What a bunch...

Ok Div 1 superkarts are arounf F3 pace, forget the club times you looked at ! check the international times by top drivers no inter tracks! very very impressive.

Anyway! even club times being a few seconds off! it's not bad! I'd expect F1 to be faster @ ??? million a pop. Anyway some tracks still hold outright lap records set by karts!

Msa 0-60 record is set at 1.9 seconds! this being a twin Gearbox kart.

F3 - years racing 500k
GearBox Kart - 10k

So not bad value I'd say! I'd say they lap around superbike time, most people could not handle this pace.

To give an idea

Cadwell park
Yamaha R1 - very fast bike - 1.37
Div 1 Superkart - 1.24.1
F3 Enrique Mansilla - 1.23.40

Donington Park
James Toseland British Superbike - 1.58.6
Div Superkart - 1.34.2

Enrique Mansilla's time at Cadwell was 25 years ago!!!

A Radical did 1.22.5 in 2005.

Mind yup I'd feel safer in a Radical than a Kart.

85k and my life

10k and no safety?

85k well spent I say, not saying Superkarts aren't fast.

Did you not post the Turbo F1 car vid from 83? lethal car's them ;-) when racing driver's were real men..... LOL

Well they stop alot faster than heavy cars at only 100kg! and the safety record is very good.

Anyway racing is dangerous regardless of what you race.

Back on topic!

Indeed. I would love to have a go in one. I guess they aren't the kind of thing you go down to your local track and pay 40 quid for several laps though. hehe
