central blast cleaning do dash flocking (they do historic and WRC stuff). iirc its a process where the dash is sprayed with glue, then an electrostatic charge is run through the item and them very shrort bristles are spray at the dash. They stand up due to the charge and it feels velvety! slight oversimplification, but ya get the drift...
You can a buy kit to do this at home from Frost auto restorations. But, it is hard work. I've just done the dash in my race Rx7 but it was a pain in the ass and took 8 times longer than expected. If I was doing it again I'd buy a lot more flock and fire it at the adhesive using a gravity fed air gun on low presure.
it does work, but be prepared to re-do a number of times.
My Rx7 does now have a dash like an F40 though.....mmm, velvety.
