British F3 review

F3 season kicks off at Oulton Park

Rounds one and two of the 2007 Lloyds TSB Insurance British F3 International Series provided an eventful start to the season at Oulton Park yesterday (Monday 9 April).

Maro Engel stormed to a lights to flag victory from pole in race one for Carlin Motorsport, with Hi Tech’s Marko Asmer second and Stephen Jelley third for Raikkonen Robertson racing.

Asmer got revenge in Race two, with Jelley improving to second and Sebastian Hohenthal coming home third. Frankie Cheng notched up National class victories in both races.

It was an expensive weekend for many race teams, with race one being run under full course yellows for a while and race two enduring two restarts – all due to accidents.  The latter was cut short to 10 laps in the end.

Asmer leads the championship with 35 points from Engel on 28 and Jelley in third on 27. Rounds three and four will be at Donington park on 22 April.

Was standing 6 feet away from the 6/7 car smash! some of those guys were V lucky, that's a 120mph bend :-).

Little Mansell looked dazed to say the least, great sounding cars though.

Yup i was one of the lucky marshals on druids for that one.
It was quite big, but the cleanup happened really quick and effectively.

I am usually at Druids but fate intervined and I spent a largely uneventful day at Knickerbrook looking at pretty lights over at Island, Casscades and wondering what alterations the boys had made to Druids.

Top class field this year with an excellent size and quality grid. The final restart wasn't even thin even though we were something like 10 cars down by then.

Really looking forward to Donington, lets just hope I don't need to send the g/f out to the market to buy us some waterproofs again this year!

Was impressed with the speed at which the incident was cleared up. Much quicker than at some other circuits.

I will pass on your comments to our team of Marshals, Mrs L is pictured (3)shouting "Oi" to one of the drivers who seems to be walking away. I was Observer for Druids and was busy writing a report. Did you see our Griffith at all?
