Hi C6erb, the British Motorsport Marshals Club website is www.marshals.co.uk/ you don't have to be a member but to Marshal but it's a good starting point.
What track(s) are you close to and I'll put you in touch with some folks who can assit you.
Without wishing to plug another forum, there is a very active Marshals Forum at Ten-Tenths, you'll get lots of info there and offers of assistance to get you started.

But the BMMC Marshal's club linked to above is a excellent place to start
now for brands: you can apply direct to the circuit via this form: www.marshals.org.uk/MSVRform.htm but i believe, as stated on that form, you need to apply for a MSVR Marshalls pass, there is a link on there for more info on that page i linked to.
alternitivly, you can apply for the BARC run meetings direct to them www.barc.net/marshals/marshaling_apply_online.php (you don't need to be a member of barc to do this)
and to the BRSCC meetings here: www.brscc.co.uk/force-download.php?file=BRSCC_SE_Availability_Form_-_2007.pdf again membership of the club is not required to marshal their events.
basically, all clubs want as many marshals as they can get. You'll always be welcombe
as a newbie - put down duty as 'trainee' and you'll be put with a more experianced marshal who will show you the ropes.
no training is required before going on the bank...as most comes from experiance. but there are sessions run at the start of the season around Feburary/March time around the country.
Other advice - from what i got when i started. you dont *need* to wear the orange baby grows we wear... but they do serve a purpose of making us visible, stopping getting our clothes mucky and orange doesnt clash with any of the flag colours. So for circuit marshalling, when on the bank you can not wear: yellow, red, green or blue. so your standard hi vis yellow jacket is no good as it looks too much like the yellow flag, but theres plenty of suppliers of orange hi vis gear, as you've probly noticed its the colour of choice for railway workmen.
different clubs have special money off deals with overall suppliers - The BMMC have discounted overalls available from AWS, BARC have their own suppliers the Vintage Car Club have some very nice overalls... or for cheap starters orange welders overalls from the likes of Dikies will do you for several seasons for about £20
also, get yourself a pair of welders gauntlets - race cars get VERY hot, and the gloves are for your protection.
so really all you need for the first time is a pair of gauntlets and a stout pair of boots (you'll be on your feet for alot of the day) and a hold all for your butties and flask of tea/coffee (a lunch break is not garenteed if the meeting is running late) and a bin bag for putting over your bag in the event of rain.
