Cheapest way into Karting

you can buy a pro kart for £500, might not be capable of getting you to the front of the grid but you will be on the grid. the Rotax 125s were about a grand a few years ago so they might be a bit cheaper now. club 100 is a good start and has its fans but i would prefer a kart which i own and can take to other circuits during the week to get the feel of and to increase my driving skills so that when racing, i know exactly how it will perform. www.karting.co.uk will have a huge classified section.
If you looking to race then 2 stoke karing isn't going to be cheap, I was reading autosport this week and they said between £15,00 - £75,000 per year for competitive karting.
I did club level Rotax max racing and on a very very tight budget and still spent £1500 in a year and that was doing everything myself and didn't include buying the kart.
You can pick up a rotax for £1K but again if your looking to race and will you could atleast double that.
If you just looking to have fun on pratise days a cheaper chassis with a recently rebuilt engine would be fine.
Tyres are another expence, again if you racing you could be spending £100 a weekend on tyres but if pratising a set of used slicks at £20 may last a few days.

Endurance ProKarting is very cheap. We did the Whilton Mill 24 hours last year and, for a team of six, it cost £300 each, including new (tweaked) engines, all tyres, mods to the kart beforehand, spares, food etc. The kart was extra, but not much extra. We didn't even finish last either, which was quite an achievement in our 10 year old museum piece.
You may think that you won't get much driving in a 24 hour race if there are six of you in a team but, trust me, during that last 1hr 20 minute stint you're very glad you don't have to do another... Your whole body hurts, but especially knees (from the fuel tank) and ribs (from the seat every time you clip an apex).
Wouldn't have missed it though and will be back this year for sure.
