WHAT'S THE POINT?

This is beating up on an old topic, but why are the races processional? The best action is in the race to the first corner and who has the best start. I admire the technical side and strategy, but sometimes I feel like I am watching a chess match and not a race.

Well A BMW ceratainly crashed the party, and Coulthard looks like he's got a real appetite in the Red Bull.

F1 goes through periods of 2 car team battles.

Last year it was Renault & Ferrari, before that it used to be McLaren & Ferrari, before that it was Williams & Ferrari, before that Williams & McLaren. Sometime 3 teams or more, remember the year Frentzen and the Jordan was a race winner and up to the last couple of races a potential World Champion. And that amazing qualifying session at Jerez when 3 cars all did exactly the same pole position time.

Swings and roundabouts. Next year it'll be a battle between Super Aguri and Spyker

I reckon it's at least a good thing that at least there's two fairly evenly matched teams.

Too often there's a standout car (Ferrari 2004 for example) and it's just dire.

So look on the bright side!

Having said that it would be good to see three teams on the same pace, add a couple of BMWs into the mix and the results would be a lot more varied and interesting.

Or reward the consistent non risk taker I suppose...

Or, if you were around between 1948 and 1951, if you weren't driving an Alfa Romeo 158/159, you were just an also-ran.

Or from 1934 to 1939, you had to be in an Auto-Union or a Mercedes.

2 teams and 4 drivers all seemingly on a similar level and all in a good position to fight for the champinship is better than we usually get in F1. Think back over the last 10 years, when has there really been more than 2 real title contenders in any of them?

The problem is they pay too much attention to the front runners, had they shown some of the mid-field fun then F1 as a whole would seem much more interesting.
