Dear ITV

May I suggest you check this presenter out as a possible replacement to James 'The Cock' Allen. I think after some careful consideration, you'll find there are many advantages to this fresh face of motor sport, and the presenters initials are pretty good (GT).

The presenter can be found hosting A1GP on Sky Sports, and think it's time they were promoted to the pinnacle of motorsport where racing fans are well overdue a fresh face (body is not bad either!!! ) for the F1 team on ITV.

I'm sure Martin wouldn't say no either...

She's a presenter not a commentator though.

Exactly.

Despite the bad name given to the profession by Allen, being a commentator is a skilled occupation.

Agree with the above, it's a commentator ITV need, although she'd be a welcome replacement for Steve Ryder

They should just wait for Antony Davidson to lose his job, he made a pretty good commentator.

I have to admit, when I heard that Steve Rider was taking over, I thought things would get better, but I guess he had more of a free reign on the BBC, rather than having to deal with the production team that ITV have assembled!!!

Presenters aren't usually skilled at live commentating.

If she was to replace Allen, she would have to demonstrate her prowess at actually commentating (not that lack of skills in that department has held back Allen's career).

Even if she was as woefully inept as JA, I would still much rather listen to her voice for an hour and half every other week than his*. Martin Brundle can handle all the techy important bits, and I'm sure he'd be in favour of the switch..

*edited to add, I am, of course, assuming here that she's not from Leeds or anything. No, actually even if she is from Leeds..

I'd happily listen to her read the Sunday papers and talk about "womens problems" during a GP rather than have Allen yapping on.

I'd preferably have NO ONE talking over the sound of the F1 engines. The graphics these days tell you most of what you need to know.

Presenter and commentator is a completely different job and skill.

One of the problems with JA's commentating is that he doesn't carry the commentary enough as Martin Brundle is effectively at times doing the same job.

If you look at football commentaries the Commentator will say about 80% of the words with the expert / colour guy interjecting with expert analysis for the other 20%

(This was also true in the "golden age" of Murray Walker and James Hunt)

For whatever reason Brundle now has at least 40 % (if not more) of the words and hence the roles within the team are confused - for example Brundle will sometimes link to the breaks which is not the job of the expert but of the lead commentator.

I have had the privilege of working with John Hindhaugh (Radio Le Mans ALMS Motors / setanta etc) and the skill of the professional commentator is amazing, unfortunately JA is not professional commentator and it shows.

Georgie Thompson can read an autocue well and looks nice but is that really a qualification for an F1 job?

Brundle should have 100% of the words.

Ryder has to think up questions easy enough for Mark Blunder to answer. Lowest common denominator and all that.

About 50% wind up - and 50% genuine.

100% genuine when it comes to removing JA though.

Sorry. If she was commentating all we would hear is her voice.

I couldn't care less what commentators look like as long as they do their job professionally and properly.

well yes, but perhaps they can have a little split screen window showing her, of course giving that shot to make you think you can see whether or not she wore knickers..

hell, it'd make F1 more interesting thats for sure
