Singapore secures 5 year deal for night race - not quite!!!
Discussion
So I read that BE has signed a deal with Singapore to host a street race from next year (2008) for the next 5 years. He claims this will be the first night race that F1 has seen.
hang on, read on a little more and look at the details:
"The race will take place on public roads around the downtown Marina Bay area, with the race proposals including powerful lighting systems that will replicate daylight conditions"
REPLICATE DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS??????
OK so where is the night bit gone? This has nothing to do with racing at night and more to do with trying to keep the biggest fan base happy and the european TV networks happy with a mid day race over here!!
Bernie - this stinks.
I liked the idea of a night race, but not in DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS - do you really think we are stupid???
Le Mans is not raced in DAYLIGHT CONDITIONS and they run just as fast (if not faster) than F1 cars and for longer periods in the dark.
Surely the clever designers in F1 can produce special lights to be fitted to the cars, making them all standardised so no team has a better solution than the next...

How long before Ferrari come up with lights that bend round corners, glare other drivers and switch off when overtaking......but then get passed by the scrutineers.
I saw a report on the BBC and thought it was a good idea, but they didn't have the "daylight conditions" bit in.
To be honest, in singapore its neither here nor there, all the CBD and Marina Bay area is well lit anyway, although i would imagine that the serious flood lighting will only be in grandstand areas (like Le Mans)
I have been trying to dig out a map of The proposed route but nothing seems to be being issued yet, either way the areas around marina bay Tangong Pagar and Raffles will make for one hell of a race.
Good news for me anyway, i have Sepang and Singapore on my F1 calender next year!!
BTW is there a link to the info?
and i did post earlier in the week that this would be announced this weekend
Will keep posted on any local info that pops up!
