He talks about only being involved with a couple of charities - does that include his leadership of the BRDC (I think)? I guess that could be a charity technically.

Excellent article, was always a fan of Hill's and that article is as good as reason as any for explaining why. For every out and out racer, the sport needs intelligent and articulate people, too.

Plus won 3 races in his first season at Williams, having being cruelly robbed of 2 earlier victories that same season and was regarded by Prost as his equal in the team.

Definitely a worthy champion.


ps. I once queued for a Ryanair flight with him at Dublin airport... he looked more like a cross between George Harrison and The Edge!

Yep, people still under-rate him and don't look at the facts.
He was robbed of being a 2 times world champion by a well known cheat. He beat lots of very good drivers in very good cars many times.
He was a very, very fast driver. When he was a test driver he was consistently faster than his supposedly more illustrious teammates. When you look at F1, drivers tend to be better at being either very fast or being racers, it takes different skills. Ocassionally you get a Jim Clarke or a Giles Villeneuve who is both. Hill was blindingly fast and could hold the speed for an entire race. This is how he won races, scored points and became world champion.
Yes he had a good car, but so did others. And there are many who have failed to become world champion in good cars, Reubens and Coulthard are just two of a long list.

Compared with a Coulthard or a Button he is miles ahead in terms of achievement.

I agree totally, I always enjoyed watching Hill and am hoping Hamiltan can instill that feeling again. Although I feel the real racing aspect of F1 has gone for me.
