James Allen?

I know there are those who feel the criticism is OTT and a case of 'mob mentality', but seriously, Best Sports Commentator?

These awards are on the "Buggin's Turn" principle.

I wouldn't read too much into it - although if he does win his smugness will increase by a whole order of magnitude.

Dear Sir,

I've just been directed to your website that seems to imply that James Allen is up for Commentator of the Year award?! (www.rts.org.uk/Information_page_+_3_pic_det.asp?id=6906)

Has anyone who decides who gets nominated for this prize actually watched ANY of the F1 coverage from 2006?! Did anyone notice the number of stupid mistakes, idiotic metaphors and total lack of anything even remotely approaching enthusiasm?!

I've worked in radio, so I know how hard it is to talk without a script and come up with 'filler material' on the spot, so I understand how difficult the job is but honestly:

He ruined Michael Schumacher's retirement.

He used phrases like 'the car in front is a wounded sparrow" (?!).

He is constantly corrected by his co-commentator Martin Brundle who would be much better suited for a nomination.

You just have to go to any motor sport forum or a certain spoof automotive news website to get an idea of how little respect that man has amongst his target audience.

Giving this award to that man would be like giving an Oscar to Keanu Reeves: mental.

Thank you for your time and please, don't give him that award, it would be stupid.

Kind regards,

A concerned F1 fan.
