Locost Racing Video from a WET Donington
Discussion
Hi All
I've just uploaded some video to YouTube from my Locost racer at Donington, 17 Sept 2006. It was a very wet race and most of the cars were on a dry set-up so it was fairly hectic.
I started from the back of the grid following a prang in qualifying.
It comes in 2 parts:
Part 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LrmjLHCNRQ
and if you're still interested
Part 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dpMfACNaSs

Brilliant Mikee, thanks for sharing!
I'm starting racing an MG soon, just waiting for the rest of my engine to arrive (it's soooo late)!
Do you watch through the videos in detail after the races, I'm wondering whether it might be a useful tool for me to use to develop my driving once I get on track?
I've been reading a lot about technique and stuff, and notice that you're struggling with oversteer at the courner exit, which I think I've read being symptomatic of corner entry understeer of all things. Does anyone with much greater knowledge and experience care to offer an opinion (ie anyone!)?
Looks like great fun, I can't wait to get out on track myself!

Theres some great driving there
great vids too!!
I always watch myself driving after a race or especially after qualifying. Theres so much to learn about how you drive the car and what lines you take. Also helps if you get another driver or instructor to wtch it with you as theres things that you may miss out.
The main reason thers oversteer on the exit of some of the corners is that its wet and even a little dab on the accelerator on the exit can send the back out. Really good fun though!
The best advice for the wet is to be extremely smooth with everything you do, so dont throw the car into a corner and dont stamp on the accelerator on the exit...also make sure you can heel and toe as it will prevent you spinning up your wheels during downshifts.
Good luck with the season!

Hi JP
I video all my races as I find it helps me to remember what on earth happened afterwards! It's amazing how little you actually remember until you watch the replay.
It's also nice to have a record of tracks to help to prepare before the next meeting there.
My car tends to oversteer a lot these days, I much prefer to be able to get the nose where I want it even if it is at the expense of oversteer on exit. However, I've always found that a car will tend to either understeer or oversteer and I've never managed to get the ultimate 'neutral car'. I guess it doesn't really matter as long as you're having fun.

Thanks guys, I'm practising heel and toe in my current road car, which is set up quite nicely for it. The car I'm going to race used to be my road car before a complete rebuild and I did practise in that too. It will be quite an experience the first time I get behind the wheel in it, as it should have 3x the power and be 2/3rds the weight it was last time I drove it!
I'll have to invest in a camera for the car as soon as funds allow, as just watching these has benefited me enormously. Having watched your first spin several times Mikee, I finally noticed that you gave the wheel a slight tweek on the exit, which looks like the 'cause'. It's the tinyness of the inputs that overcome the grip levels that amazes me! You were so close to holding it too; managed it a few times through the race I see.
I'll be avoiding the kerbs in the wet like anything as well!
I have sooooo much to learn!
