How quick they turn? What against Button?

Hey I know you don't respect my views too much on Button but this year hasn't been his finest hour and of course people are going to say that the writing is on the wall.

The latest excuse was all about his adoption from Michelins to Bridgestone but then the conflict comes - Both Kimi and Albers have gone on record saying that you can't be so agressive on the Bridgestone tyres so that should suit Button??

The car might be the biggest pile of poo in the paddock but then so far Button has failed to beat his team mate and if it continues much longer then why should there be a way back??

The problem that button has had has been that hes either not been in a team long enough to get used to the car and settle in (renault, williams), or that the management is poor (nick fry and honda) and constantly changing (bar, david richards).

while to a certain extent what you're saying is valid I don't think you can blame all of that on the team. When Schumacher joined Ferrari they were disorganised and pi$$ing money up the wall but he put his thinking cap on as much as Brawn and with the aid of a good man manager in Todt turned it around.

I agree the japanese should have fired Fry some time ago but Button should have been putting in his experience and knowledge of how a car behaves much earlier in the preseason to have given the designers and engineers soemthing to work on(though they should surely have known what it takes themselves after ending the season with a good car) Same for that matter goes for Barrichelo.

I think Button is a very good driver, better than Massa in my opinion but he just lacks that little something to make his team work as much for him as he does for himself.

I don't think anyone is qualified to say Button is better than Massa, especially as Massa is giving Kimi some grief, a lot of bad decisions and bad luck have made it so we probably will never know how good Button is/was.

i do wish all the old drivers would shut up and not feel it necessary to state the bleedin obvious. this week we have had lauda say that hamilton is quite good, stewart say that hamilton wont be champion this year and now moss say that button is rubbish. these are hardly interesting insights intothe world of motorsport. its sad that these gret driver should feelthe need to voice their opinion on everything and everyone, soon their opinion will be of the same value as jade goody.

It is a shame that there aren't more insightful comments but the media seem to like to set people up but love drama. The biggest story is the supposed war between Hamilton and Alonso or Kimi and the rest of the world - nothing is ever easy...

Jade Goody's opinion is worthless; I doubt very much that Stewart's or Moss's ever will be.
Is the problem that the former greats actually have an opinion? If we on PH should feel free to offer our totally uninformed, naive views on motor racing, it is not obvious why Jackie Stewart should not be free to have views as well.
Is the problem with champion's opinions, or is the problem with the desperate, over-commercialised media, who inundate us with all manner of trivial bullshit in their pathetic efforts to induce us to buy the rubbish that they produce?

Pablo -are you serious?

What are they supposed to say to reporters?

"Sorry, as I am a retired racing driver I cannot make any valid comments about today's racing. Of course, you may interview anybody else you come across who is younger, even if they've never even sat in a racing car because, being young, their opinion carries far more weight than mine".

They are entitled to their opinions as much as anyone else and, even if they haven't raced for a number of years, they will have a damn sight more awareness of what motor racing is about than most people, including those of us who opinionate here on PH ad nauseum.
In fact, even though they may not race cars these days, most of them have had some involvement in recent motorsport, partcularly Stewart.

Hmmm. Smooth, fast driver, considered a "wunderkind" and a bit of a playboy, consistent poor choice of team selection and lack of "killer instinct" mean that he never lives up to his promise....

Anyway enough about Stirling Moss...

Ooooooooooooh...............nasty.

A different driver from a different era - where championships didn't matter so much. Once Fangio retired, Moss was the most highly respected driver amongst his peers - and he did actually WIN a lot of races, unlike Mr Button.

"Once Fangio retired"...those are the key words there...substitute "once Schumacher retired" for those that follow nowadays.

If the championships were not so important, why did Fangio choose to move teams to secure a car advantage then?...that old killer instinct...

Ha I agree but sadly when Autosport runs a non-F1 front cover it does loose sales - so maybe their pathetic efforts mirror the public pathetic efforts to lap this shit up?

Jensen Button hasn't won a lot of races after Schumacher retired. In fact, he hasn't won any races this season. Hang on, actually his record isn't anywhere near as successful as Moss'.

??? I wasn't aiming that at Button, just making the point that when the dominant driver of his generation retires, he leaves the field free for others to take.

Do you really expect Jenson Buton to win any races this season? Do you really expect, Ralf Schumacher, Jarno Trulli, David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello to win races this year? They are all past F1 race winners themselves, but without truly competitive cars, which none of them has, their only chance of winning a race this season arguably comes this weekend.

Even the great Michael Schumacher would be unable to win a race in any of the cars the drivers mentioned above drive...

I think it is possible that you may be a little harsh about the Adrian Newey designed Red Bull. It seems to be getting better and better and Coulthard is a real racer, unlike the others you named. It is a long season and a lot can happen so a RBR/Coulthard win is not totally impossible. But there again, I don't expect it!!
