Lewis only did 14 laps (less than half of Fonso's total) due to a starter motorfailure damaging other parts of the car.

For some reason (and I don't know why) but I think Kimi might pull one out of the bag. Got to be some pressure on him from Massas recent qualifications. So that would make the grid Kimi, Massa, Hamilton and Alonso.

Quite a few teams had big gaps between drivers, Friday practice 1 is never really a guide to who's quick as you never really know who's light on fuel, who's heavy. Both drivers or just the one.

Practice 2 will give a better idea I think.

Free practice is pretty irrelevant though and is only for headline grabbing ahead of qualifying. You don't know what the team's agenda for the day is.

go on www.formula1.com and click on Live Timing. You'll need Java Runtime on your machine for it to work, but most machines have that on.

Alonso quickest by 0.085 over Hamilton who has a rather ominous STOP next to his times. Stopped on track, hope it's not engine related or he'll get a demotion if it needs a change.

No he won't, Fridays are now free of engine restrictions so it doesn't affect the rest of the weekend.

You often also find it says Stop next to their name when they come into the pits for some reason, hope he hasnt stopped because of a barrier interface though!

Glad it doesn;t count on Fridays now.

But the STOP is for stopping out on track. Both he and Anthony Davidson have. When they come into the pits their car number goes white, number is red for out on track. Hamilton has only done 19 laps, Alonso now done 27, Raikonnen's done 31 and is 3rd, 4/10ths off Alonso.


Update - Red flags just gone out. Session stopping. No idea why yet, this has come some minutes after the STOP bit appeared, maybe they need to move cars or another incident has happened.

Yep if it stays "Stop" then it is usually out on track, but Ive seen it before for about a minute when they come into the pits even though other times it says "Pit"! I think its maybe to do with whether they arte before or after the start line in the pitlane, therefore teams further up the pitlane past the start will trigger the car for a new "lap" even when they are just pulling up in their pit box.
