Lewis will be at GoodwoodNew British Formula One star Lewis Hamilton has now confirmed his attendance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Festival will be the first opportunity for British motor sport fans to see Lewis in action in an F1 car on UK soil, as he screams up the 1.16-mile Goodwood hillclimb in an F1 McLaren on Sunday 24 June.

All four British F1 drivers from this season are confirmed to be attending and driving at the Festival of Speed - being held in Goodwood Park from 22-24 June 2007 - two weeks prior to them all being seen in action at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Hamilton will be joining fellow Brits Jenson Button, David Coulthard and new F1 recruit Anthony Davidson at the Festival, with all four due to tackle the celebrated Goodwood Hill. While the first three drivers will be pedalling modern machinery, Davidson will be getting to grips with raw turbo power as he punts the ex-Nigel Mansell/Nelson Piquet 1987 championship-winning Williams-Honda FW11B up the hill.
The full contemporary F1 line-up is:
- Ferrari- the legendary F1 team will be here from Italy to help celebrate the marque's 60th anniversary
- Honda- the latest RA107 car will be in action all weekend, and it is confirmed that Christan Klien will drive on Friday and Saturday, with local hero Jenson Button driving on Sunday
- McLaren-Mercedes- last season's car is expected to be in action on Saturday and Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton driving on Sunday
- Red Bull - the Renault-powered car will smoke its tyres all weekend
- Spyker- the newest addition to the F1 grid is expected to make its debut appearance at the Festival, with both its F1 car and Le Mans challenger
- Toyota- the latest car will be in action all weekend as part of Toyota's celebration of a half-century in motor sport. It is now confirmed that Ralf Schumacher will be on hand to drive on Saturday
- Williams-Toyota- the great British team will demonstrate its latest V8 car on Saturday and Sunday

Unfortunately, they don't time the runs by the current F1 drivers, mainly for safety reasons. So, they usually just do burn-outs at various points up the hill. However, if you want to see something really spectacular, go to Shelsley Walsh on 1st July, or Prescott on 5th August to see the VSCC hill climbs. There you will witness Chris Williams in the 27 litre aero engined Napier Bentley ('the ultimate laxative'), doing the most spectacular burn-outs in competitive (timed) runs. This really has to be seen to be believed, & although the F1's at Goodwood are good to see, they are tame in comparison to the Napier Bentley. Also competing at the VSCC events will be other cars of similar capacity which are just as spectacular.

As I live locally, Ive been about 4 times now but mostly on a Saturday and not for the last couple of years since they started making it ticket only both days and ramped the prices up even further. I guess in theory Sunday will always be the best as most of the timed runs occur then and as can be seen above, most of the main attractions drive, but Saturday is also very good (not been on a Friday before).
was very disapointed with the parking , total soop in a very uneven feald best suited to 4x4 not tvr's .....If you have never been to Goodwood before, YOU MUST GO.
If you have been in the last 3-4 years, not worth it, simply becuase it is the same old drivers in the same old cars apart from the odd new one.
The early days were the best days of the FOS simply because it was less crowded, less commercially driven, and you rubbed shoulder with other Petrolheads. The last time I went there were too many 'day trippers' after an entertaining day out.
I might do it again in a couple of years once the thrill from the last event has vanished from my memory, but as I said at the beginning, if you have never been you must go at least once to savour the delights (that's if you can see anything through the crowds).

Have just booked Friday tickets hoping it'll be more petrol than tripper, and a bit less crowded as it's not a day when ....

OK so there are always going to be repeats from one "show" to the next year.
Personally I will never tire of seeing/hearing the 1930's Silver Arrows, or the Alfetta, or an unsilenced DFV etc, etc.
I missed last year but am going Friday/Saturday this - havent gone on a Sunday since many a year.
Friday is by far the best day, so you do not see all the stars but at least there is space to move around.

Dont stand behind the cars when they are being fired up, especially if you are wearing white. g early ?
It always amazes me how people will stand directly behind the exhausts on our our CanAm car when it gets fired up, 8.8 litres of rich mixture tends to provide a bit of a dark and loud exhaust combination.
If you can, get down to the start for the big power cars, they can be spectacular trying to put 800BHP down on cold tyres.
