My opinion, Villeneuve should shut his annoying little mouth - Hamilton is entitled to defend his position and from what I can remember Villeneuve was at best an average driver - keep your daft opinions to yourself Jacques!

Nobody called him average when describing how well he drove against Damon Hill in 1996.

However, I do think he likes being controversial and sometimes opens his mouth a little too wide.
All the same, I prefer opinionated people to those who always toe the party line.

beer here's to someone who speaks his mind - even if we do not agree with it. We live in a country where free speech must be applauded.

Is it because he's spoken out about Lewis angel Hamilton for whom the sunshines out his ass for the producers of ITV F1?

Is he being serious? Ok, the start at Monaco had more than a hint of a Schmacher chop about it, but what the hell was wrong with the other 4...

I can't stand the coverage of the GP's on ITV just now because of the over-hype of Hamilton. I hope he does well but give us a bit of a rest!

I loved when Eddie Irvice was on the scene - he always spoke his mind and I respected him for it - his opinions were always spot on. But Jacques is only trying to be controversial just for the sake of it.

All in my opinion, of course.

Nothing at all, just Villeneuve trying to put himself back in the limelight

You're joking, right?

Spoke his mind or do you mean Michael Schumacher's? I used to call him Muttley...

Well, he is a former WDC, which gives him better qualification about the subject matter than almost anybody else.

he won in the year he had a faster car than anyone else, and his career in F1 outside that year was hardly sparkling!..... oh yes, he'll be remembered for breathtaking driving skills rather than for being a bit trappy and wearing baggy overalls i'm sure!

Isn't that was Alonso and Hamilton have? Put Lewis is Jenson's car and then see how much of the limelight he gets!

JV - very exciting (and fast) driver to watch IMHO and didn't he win CART and Indy 500 - I'd say that there was a bit of a shine there - might even be brave enough to state it was "sparkling"...perhaps you're confusing him with Dario Franchitti?

But he does like to be controversial....and Hamilton's moves have been no worse than Schumacher's.

I always thought Irv said what he wanted to say - don't think I really ever saw him act as a mouthpiece for Ferrari.

I didn't see Monaco, but at the start in Bahrain he swerved a couple of times. Martin Brundle picked up on it in the ITV commentary.

Err, as did Schumacher for four out of the seven titles he won (Ferrari dominance, the Renault engine/Bennetton combination wasn't too shabby either...) As have the majority of World Champions, it's what helps them win the titles...

I should think Schumacher still wonders how the hell he went round the outside of him in Barcelona in '96... Not to mention not being scared of going toe-to-toe at Estoril in '97...

People seem to happily forget that Jacques stepped out from behind his fathers shadow long before he got to F1. He was CART champion AND Indy 500 winner before he got to Williams, where he immediately outshone his more experienced team-mate. Credit where it's due, Jacques can bloody drive. Shame he wasn't able to get the BAR/Honda package moulded around him in the way Schumchaer did at Ferrari. Can you imagine what he'd have achieved if he had? I don't think Micheal would be admiring 7 WDC trophies on his mantelpiece if he had.

Er..not really.

He immediately outshone his team mate in 1996? Isn't that when his more experienced team mate beat him to the WDC?

And wasn't the reason he wasn't able to mould the BAR team around him...because everyone hated him and he whined the whole time and, fundamentally because he wasn't as motivated, or as quick, as he was for Williams?

I don't think Michael casts too many thoughts as he closes his eyes each night to thanking the Lord that the BAR wasn't a bit quicker during 2000-2004..

imho.

Jacques Villeneuve is/was a very good driver, that F1 chamionship, CART and Indy was not won by accident, however he does have a very individual personality compared to most in F1 (a good thing), and I think he lost motivation after winning the championship. On the rare days when he could be bothered to drive fast after that he showed real quality.

But I don't agree with his assessment of Lewis' starting. You have to make your start count and Lewis has that done better than anyone else at the front of the grid this season.

The Monaco start was a definite swerve to get in behind Alonso potentially chopping off those behind, and Bahrain was apparently (see post above) a case of Hamilton swerving before first corner.

Whether Schumacher did or not is irrelevant as what Vilneuve was saying (according to the report I read) was that Hamilton was swerving like Schumacher did and Schumacher shouldn't have been allowed to get away with it, and nor should Hamilton.

I think he is right, the drivers shouldn't be seeking to chop off the drivers as one day there will be an almighty accident caused by it.

However he is also definitely being contraversial with his remarks and of course that will have nothing to do with a race coming up in just over a week!

Lewis Hamilton in F1 Overtaking Shocker! How dare this evil young whipersnapper come into our sport and alter it. This is a processional sport and we want to keep it that way. Anyone who wants to change that should probably be injured by an angry mob or something. The only thing we want to see in 2 hours of racing is someone at the back of the grid run into a stalled car at the start resulting in a dramatic explosion of literally several carbon fibres, and a pace car to restore calm. I don't pay my license fee to see this filth!

Having watched all the races so far and having the Monaco start clearly remembered I reall can't see what the fuss is about.

There was certainly no complaint from other drivers about Hamilton's driving and the Monaco start was a perfect example of how to defend your position. He closed the door on the cars behind him and did so in a manner that didn't case an accident or cause anyone to take evasive action.

This is just a case of JV being controversial for the sake of it.

If Schumacher did it, it's dangerous, if Hamilton does it he's "making he's start count".
