What is the cock on about?
Discussion
I must have been mad, but I thought I'd click on the link to see James Allen's thoughts on the Canadian race and what does the guy smoke before putting pen to paper, or as the case maybe, finger to keyboard...
Some of his comments about his gimp boy Lewis:
"The guy is rewriting the book of what is possible in this sport"
Excuse me, but he's not the only rookie to come into the sport and out perform their team mates relative to where the teams cars are on the grid.
"He’s on track to be world champion and this may be his best chance, as he will never have a better car relative to the opposition."
Errrr Ron, I think James Allen is saying that next year you are going to build a shit car!! After all the cock has spoken...
"The value of this win to him is that he now has an eight point lead over his team-mate with a third of the season gone."
Bloody hell James, I really didn't know that, thanks for keeping me informed because my maths is sooo poor NOT!
"He cannot and will not play second fiddle to Alonso from now on, as he has at times this year for internal political reasons."
Errr Ron, I think you need to have a word with the cock because he still thinks you run your team like Ferrari do...
"He was brilliant... metronomically perfect on every lap."
Where does he conjur up these words from, this is motor sport, not a musical!!
"He drove like a champion, not like a rookie"
He drove bloody quick yes, but how does a champion drive?
OMG that was painful to read - does the guy have a girlfriend, I think he needs one fast

Much as I complain about JA, I do think that is being rather harsh. Some of his comments are obviously far too stuffed with hyperbola but some of what he said is reasonable.
However, his journalistic skills do leave much to be desired and I doubt if he would be able to hold down a position with any half decent motor sport magazine.
Don't slag him off too much about his "metronome" comment. After all, the great Murray Walker once described someone's driving as being "Up and down like a Metronome".

Er..he is the only rookie to score podium finishes in every race in his first season. I think Hamilton has set a new benchmark for the next generation of drivers."The guy is rewriting the book of what is possible in this sport"

The metronome comment makes sense to me too as Hamilton was setting very consistent lap times.
As much as I want to 'stop the cock' I felt the OP is being a little unfair.

I was going to disagree and point out the fact that James Allen used to be a staffer on Autosport but then I remembered why I cancelled my subscription!Edited by Eric Mc on Monday 11th June 14:07

Yeah, he didn't last very long and was only in the 'club' section of the magazine for a short time.He then went to Brabham to be one of the PR people there, I believe.

Er..... he is a Champion, he's won 5 championships already and how can someone who has been racing since they were 6 months old (slight exaggeration I know) ever be called a rookie. He makes it sound as if he never taken part in a race before. And if they refer to any driver "being on the bubble" again in qualifying something large and very heavy will be making it's way through the back of the TV set next weekend. Especially when they say it to someone who's not even currently 16th in Q1.

Sounds like you're having a rant for the sake of having a rant tbh. Some of his comments about his gimp boy Lewis:

Yes, I agree, but I suspect his column is edited somewhat. There were, to be fair, far more irritating comments throughout the weekend. And the "on the bubble" one really annoys me too. The prize winner for me this weekend was after Brundle casually mentioned his hangover having been out drinking with Schumacher the night before. All JA could come out with was having spoken to someone who used to work at Benetton once. Teeth grinding.
I don't think he has "Murrayisms" so to speak, it's just his fundamental lack of insight into the sport and his nauseating, superficial enthusiasm. He's been commentating on F1 for ten years now, and still doesn't seem to have anything of a relationship with anyone "in the know". He's useless. Everyone in the paddock knew Murray Walker, providing the inside experience that allowed him to make the viewer feel part of what was going on. Allen just makes me want to hurt someone.

However Allen makes me want to hurt only one person, not just someone...
(though the two idiots on pitlane are almost as annoying)
