Who would win in equal cars, Button or Hamilton?
Discussion
Don't laugh.
Button looks bad now because his car is a piece of crock.
But in the second half of last season he got a lot of points in a car that was competetive but not the best.
Hamilton is doing superbly, but he is in the best car. And in modern F1 the car is a lot more important than the driver.
I reckon it would be a good race between these two. And I reckon that Button, with the advantage of more experience, might suprise a few people.

Button cant even beat Barichello in the same car, Hamilton is able to outpace the currentt double world champion.
I dont think theres much doubt

I think it is pretty clear as Alonso is far faster than Button, yet Hamilton can beat Alonso whilst Button is often being out qualified by his team mate.
Button is the Tim Henman of Motorsport IMHO, the press go on about how fantastic he is, the fans go on about how fantastic he is... yet he never quite gets to the very top.

Hamilton has the potential to be the best ever, something you can not say about any other driver out there, including Button.
What will happen when Hamilton wins his first world title though? Will he still have the single mindedness and drive to beat MS's record?
I think the way in which he's been following his dream since he was 9, shows that he is certainly single minded What will happen when Hamilton wins his first world title though? Will he still have the single mindedness and drive to beat MS's record?

yeah - i think the 'bad car' excuse can only go so far... since it wasnt that long ago the Honda was a serious contender, and he still only stood on the top step once, out of how many races?I dont think theres much doubt
As I said in another post I think Button needs the car to be perfect for his ultra smooth driving style to reap rewards. Would like to see what he can do in a well sorted top car. I think Hamilton looks like he can adapt to the car not being perfect better though which would mean over a season he would be the better driver to have.
I'm very worried about Hamilton today. I think Alonso will think that his best opportunity to win will be into the first corner and I can see the 2 Mclarens having a collision at the first corner after everything that has been said over the past week. I only hope that if Alonso does try to make a desperate move which he has no right to make that Hamilton doesn't just yield and lets the collision happen as if he allows Alonso to make a silly move on him and get away with it Alonso will keep doing it. I think Alonso is trying to bully his way to no1 driver at Mclaren and I cant blame him for that - the most successful drivers have always been good at the mind games.

Interesting.
I think some people are underestimating how important the car is and overestimating how important the driver is.
McLaren would definitely be 1, 2 in the drivers championship with other drivers. Put the two Honda drivers in that car and they would be 1, 2 . No doubt.
So you think McLaren would be in the same position with Scott Speed and Ralph in the team?I think some people are underestimating how important the car is and overestimating how important the driver is.

I dont think so, I doubt they would have even won a race

Would Button? occasionally, but i'd wager he wouldnt have the consistancy of either Alonso, Hamilton, Massa or Kimi..
