Has Ron Dennis made a mistake??
Discussion
This is going to be a long one - but stay with me guy's!!!
He's paying a fortune for Alsono who he hoped would lead and dominate and take Mclaren to glory - but who now seems to be on the verge of breaking.
The rookie is more sensational than anyone suspected - and has clearly got the current WDC rattled.
Has Ron unleashed something which he now has no control over and is he in advertanlty in danger of ruining Mr Alonso???

So you're Ron Dennis, you manage to pry the double WDC from his very competitive team to yours - even though at that time you're having a dismall season with reliability etc.
You're still not sure who's going to partner him - you're still hoping that you can retain the fast but not altogether smooth/reliable Finn and create a partnership that will push both drivers.
After a few months the fast Finn jumps ship to Ferarri - so you have a decision to make. As you've just got rid of the whinging Columbian mid season you stick your fast Spanish test driver in the car for the remainder of the season. The TD does a decent job and scores some good points - but you've also got a couple of other drivers you could try - but you don't (for reasons only know to your self........).
You then suddenly decide that to partner your new reigning Champ you aren't going to use the dependable Spanish TD or the former DTM champ - instead you decide to go for the inexperienced (but fast/talented) GP2 champ who you've invested millions of $ and time in.
You think this will give you a good partnership with the WDC leading the team and bringing on the fast but not tested rookie.
In the closed season this seems to have worked - current WDC is fast and getting on with it, the rookie is fast and learning.
The season starts well with WDC leading the rookie home in the first few races - rookie is impressive ans score points/podium in every race.
Then the rookie out qualifies the WDC and then comprehensivley out races him on two occasions.
WDC becomes flustered and starts moaning about bias and englishness within the team.........
So then my question is - has Ron dropped a huge clanger??You're still not sure who's going to partner him - you're still hoping that you can retain the fast but not altogether smooth/reliable Finn and create a partnership that will push both drivers.

With Alonso's poor little rich boy act. The moaning, sulking and generally acting the petulant child, I hope LH does beat him this season and I do hope it comprehensively smashes Alonso mentally.
You dont have to be a good loser, but there is a certain dignity in defeat that is required to be a slightly deflated champion, rather than a whinging, moaning, arrogant tosser.
His comments to the press, and behavior in general, are pathetic.

If McLaren win the Drivers/Constructors championship then surely it doesn't really matter either way!

I've seen Ron quoted as saying he'd never want another 1988, but I suspect he might take it if offered.
He's been there and done all this before - and LH and FA don't even hate each other yet

I don't think he's dropped anything close to a clanger.

Have to agree with that, and I did notice that he wasn't wearing the obligatory clean overalls/jacket at the press conference like LH was, which to me said he was throwing the toys out of the pram and not doing what he was asked... Never have particularly liked the guy, and the excessive sulking really isn't helping. You dont have to be a good loser, but there is a certain dignity in defeat that is required to be a slightly deflated champion, rather than a whinging, moaning, arrogant tosser.

Alonso needs to swallow his disappointment and knuckle down to utilising his experience and regaining his number 1 spot in the team. You dont have to be a good loser, but there is a certain dignity in defeat that is required to be a slightly deflated champion, rather than a whinging, moaning, arrogant tosser.

Yes, but who cares. Certainly not Ron. He's in a no loose situation. Look at all the coverage he's getting. His sponsors must love him. Alonso wins or Hamilton Wins, Ron won't care as long as Mclaren win the championship. What pathetic comments did he make to the press in the press conference yesterday? What was so bad about his behaviour on the podium, he shook his hand, they even hugged (maybe it was uncomfortable but they still did) and they went on the podium and celebrated together. Of course he hates losing, but at least he put on a brave face and tried to be gracious.

I think this was a reference to the comments he is alleged to have made in the Spanish press over the last week or so... I haven't actually seen it myself so can't really comment.Edited by RT/10Dave on Monday 18th June 14:24
alonso would be a good bet for champion in the renault, ferrari or mclaren this year. by signing him and lewis, ron is assured of the title. i think its as simple as that, if lewis wins it then all hte better, alonso will have a strop but is still signed to mclaren so he is even more annoyed in 2008 and tries harder to win the championship.
the only loser is the fans who do not get to see a tiotle fight because the two drivers most likely to win are on the same team and some form of team orders will come into play to stop them taking each other out...

I think this is one of those situation that if you are careful you can use to your advantage.
McLaren are getting huge publicity at the moment and the fact that Alonso is getting the 'ump is drawing more attention to the team..
Even we're talking about Mclaren..
What i think is good is that Lewis Hamilton is a racer and seems to be bringing a bit of GP2 with him into F1 and being pretty bold on the racetrack.
I did notice Alonso's outfit at the press conference and when he veered towards the pit wall after his failed overtake bid in the race, which Martin Brundell was pointing out that Alonso was making a point of his anger towards the team.
Lets face it, if Alonso is a true champion (of the people as well as the sport) then he'll come back and win... He cant blame the car as unfortunately for him his only real rival is on the same team.
If he wants to be compared with the greats then lets see it on the track. I dont think many people will be interested in excuses for not winning.
