Could BMW find themselves on the top step this year?

I guess McLaren would have to have a double DNF, but I feel that BMW is on even terms, if not ahead of the Ferrari's now.

Not a fan of their road cars, but it would be nice to finally have a new team get to the front

i think, or at least i hope, it will happen. as you say, we'll probably have to rely on some sort of misfortune hitting at least one of the macca's, but certainly ferrari's are not significantly (if any) quicker right now and renault still has a bit of a gap to close in terms of pace.

Hopfully Mclaren are going to stumble at least once.
