Has the British public warmed to Lewis yet?

I only ask this question because with a couple of weeks to go before the British GP at Silverstone, they still have grandstand tickets and general entry tickets left, why no sell out?
If you were to believe the hype in the press and on the ITV Lewis Hamilton appreciation show (or ITV-F1 to others!!) then you'd think that Silverstone would have sold out by now...
So why not?
Is it the cold grey corporate approach that McLaren Mercedes seem to follow these days, despite Ron saying they would change that image this year.
Or maybe the general public can see through all the shite that is being made of Lewis and will wait to serve judgement on his talents...
Needless to say Lewis is good, but could he beat the 'our nige' following of years gone past (even Hill couldn't do it) I really don't know, and it will be interesting to see in years to come.

For one I only hope we dont see the hideous following Mansell had. 1992 at Silverstone was simply apalling. A sun readers paradise but it had little to do with motor racing
At least the crowd is now restricted so we wont seee the 120k that were there then.
The press then cast Senna as the villain to Mansell true British hero which was also horrible to behold, at least half the crowd had no appreciation of the talents on display.

I've been to the GP three times '96, '98 & '03 and never really enjoyed it. I didn't like the atmosphere. There was a general feeling of 80,000 people being a bit bored - I know I was. I just felt so distant from the action.
I've since been to the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone a couple of times and loved it.

Agree 100%I have only ever been once to the Grand Prix at Silverstone, the only reason I went was that I was lucky enough to be given a free 3 day ticket. However theres no way I would pay the prices they charge, much better to watch on TV.

Sad but true. It's time that that grey haired midgit troll had his grip taken off of the F1 circus.
You can have the pinicle of motorsport without having to bill the general public to pay for ever increasingly expensive hospitality and circuit facilities for the minority.
Id rather spend £50 and stand on an earth bank with true F1 fans than miss the opportunity for the grand prix as the day is likely to cost £200, and the corporate buisness freeby/perk "elite" had taken all the best seats, yet don't even follow the sport.
In terms of the UK media, Lewis is currently on a high, and getting lots of great publicity. Sadly the way that the uk media machine works means that there are loads out there itching for him to make a mistake and rip him to pieces in the process - just the way this country is - we'd rather see someone fail than succeed.

I think people are also thinking it may be another Maclaren borefest.
Hamilton has had nothing to beat up to now, so when he calls himself a great driver (which he did in the Lewis Hamilton ITV show aka ITV-F1) - I think hes arrogant & that turns me right off, maybe others also. When he wins in a car thats not head & shoulders above all others, and he does it regularly, then maybe, till then he believes all the crap uncle Ron tells him.
Even his own team mate hasnt looked too hot so far.
The ticket prices coupled with no credible race wont do Silverstone any good & dont forget theres no Schumacher this year, again reducing the appeal for quite a few.

I thought that a 3 day ticket was £99 - seemed OK to me - considering the price my neighbour paid to see George Michael at Wembley the other week...or the price one pays for a 3 day ticket at GFoS. rubystone said:

errmmmm I don't think you'll find that too many people put Silverstone on their "must do" list because Schumacher was competing....Removing the most successful driver ever from the circus makes it a weaker spectacle.
