Muzza returns to the mic for Five Live

Murray Walker commentates at the European Grand Prix

Murray is back
Murray is back
Formula One’s legendary voice is back – at the age of 83.

Murray Walker is to commentate for BBC Radio Five Live from the European Grand Prix in Germany on 22 July.  It will be his first UK commentary since his retirement in 2001.

In an exclusive one-off for Five Live, Murray will also commentate on the qualifying session for the race on Saturday 21 July. He replaces David Croft, whose baby is due that weekend.

Murray will also host a special Formula One edition of the Five Live 606 phone-in, live from the Nurburgring at 6pm – 7pm on Saturday 21 July. Listeners can call or text in their questions and comments.

Go for it Murray, and drop in a few of your classic lines please, just for us…

Fantastic, I wonder if he can still sound as manic in his 80s?

Cool, think it's going to be a case of TV on with the sound off!

Great news - I will be in France when the race is on so my only chance to know what is happening will be via Radio 5 so will get to listen to Murray. Shame he isn't coming back to replace James Allen permanently!

If it's anything like in the past, the poisoned dwarf will have R5 commentary blocked from streaming anywhere outside of the UK.

Eight minutes past the hour here in Belgium - and presumably eight minutes past the hour everywhere in the world.

Either the car is stationary, or it's on the move

This circuit is interesting because it has inclines and declines. Not just up, but down as well.

Have you ever seen so many people at a Formula One Grand Prix before? The answer's no, because there haven't been as many!

I should imagine that the conditions in the cockpit are totally unimaginable

He can't decide whether to leave his visor half open or half closed

The lead car is absolutely unique - except for the car behind which is identical.

There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire

And now excuse me while I interrupt myself.

Tambay's hopes, which were previously nil, are now absolutely zero.

There are seven winners of the Monaco Grand Prix on the starting line today, and four of them are Michael Schumacher.

A mediocre season for Nelson Piquet, as he is now known, and always has been.

The young Ralf Schumacher has been upstaged by the teenager, Jenson Button, who is 20.

Do my eyes deceive me or is Senna's car sounding a bit rough?

A sad ending, albeit a happy one

Brilliant - keep 'em coming Murray!!

I knew it, I knew it
Living in the Netherlands makes it not really easy to receive Five Live in an aceeptable manner. So that's why I was so happy when I landed myself an almost perfect Panasonic RF2200 during a carbootsale last saturday. RF2200, unsurpassed in crystal clear medium wave reception when it comes to analogue portable radio's.
Yesterday I allready enjoyed five live's coverage of the Moto GP at Donnington. I'm really looking forward to Muzza's return.
