Thinking about getting the Tuscan stripped down and the Chassis re-powder coated, who is best placed to undertake this task?

I know a place up here who would do an excellent job ( classic restoration and race prep company who won a championship with their car last year), but if your getting anyone to strip down and rebuild a tuscan its going to be expensive..

what sort of finish are you after concourse or just a tidy up?

Thanks Graham, I want the car to be perfect, I was just going to get the car re-sprayed but whilst I'm going to the trouble of getting the car semi stripped down I thought I would go the full hog and get the chassis sorted out aswell, what sort of cost would we be talking about?

That can be a huge task. On cars some the roll cage feet are easily accesible and you can get at the bolts which connect the cage to the chassis. Undo all of them and, after disconnecting everything and undoing everything that is bolted through the body and the chassis (e.g. fuel tank, pedal box) and the body and cage will lift off. Getting it back on is a pain in the proverbial though, as the mounting points never line up again perfectly. The roll cage often springs out, particularly the two rear stays

On some cars the mounting points were glassed over during repairs. You have to cut away the bodywork to get at the cage bolts.

All in all its not someting I would tackle lightly. Its an awful lot of work for little benefit other than cosmetics. Corrosion is not an issue on a race car as you should be keeping it clean and dry anyway.

Its a massively different job part stripping the car for a respray, and doing a full body off, chassis strip. You'd end up rebuilding the car almost in its entirety and that will cost you several thousand. This is not a serious suggestion (as I suggest you leave the body on), but it would be cheaper to sell yours, buy mine (chassis was done in 2003) and fettle that.

Tim Hood can powder coat your chassis if you do decide to go ahead - he has a powder coating business.

Regards

Andy
