Rollbar for MX-5

Hi everyone

I'm looking to do a couple of hillclimb/sprints this season in my Mk1 MX-5. Can anyone recommend anywhere that will fit a rollbar? (a proper one that'll save my head, rather than a cosmetic one, although they're very nice.)

I'll be driving to and from events, so it can't get in the way of the hood. I've seen an MX-5 with a neat little hoop over the driver's side - does this ring any bells?

Oh yes, the cheaper the better as I've not got the biggest budget!

Any advice would be useful, ta.

I believe Caged www.therollcagepeople.com have done the work for the Max5 series, may be worth speaking to them. (Also did the cage in my Chimmy racer so have first hand experience of them)

You will need more than some little hoop behind your head to keep you safe. You will need something that goes along the top of the windscreen as well as the windscreens collapse in very easily when they roll.

There are some very good ones made in the states but sold over here called Harddog, they are very well made & are built to US sprint regs, I can recomend them highly. Nobody in the UK makes a proper half/bolt in cage for the MX5 that I know of.

Phil at Performance5 sells and fits the Harddog range of roll bars. There's plenty of information on Harddog's own website including pics of rolled cars.

The added advantage of a decent bar is that it also stiffens up the chassis a little too.
