I used to see him as a dour, grey, boring character who expected his drivers to act like machines while displaying no emotion, but over the past few years I've really come to respect what he stands for, and what he has achieved.
I've heard he got emotional at a press conference today. He seems an honest guy and hope justice for all prevails soon.

Ron when talking about F1 tends to use phrases that make no real sense....ie Ron Speak....and he does love to be a 'little grey'. However his does care about McLaren and its public appearance / corporate partners and does smile...just no often on camera. He is however an open and honest man and demands results from those around him which is what makes McLaren so successful.
Does seem to be getting uncharacteristically emotional this season though - perhaps it's the menopause.
I was starting to wonder if the bookies would give odds on at what point in the weekend Ron would start crying, but it seems he's already broken down before it's even started!
I like him, even in his dour days. A fantastic competitor and businessman.

Sitting in the grandstand at Catalunya 2 years ago, I witnessed [ via binos] his interactions with Frank Williams, admirable guy.
Used to be on the spanners once I believe.
Knows F1 from top to bottom.
And as far as McLaren are concerned, hes always at the forefront keeping up the corporate image.

He is a bit 'strange' though. Legend has it that his car is washed twice a day, whether or not it leaves the car park. And he gets the gravel on his driveway washed every year.
A friend did some work on the new building. The attention to detail in the specifications was astonishing (what I heard was "we get asked to colour match to Pantone every so often, but I've never been asked to match gloss level before"
. And apparently every hinge in the building is to the same design - whether on a kitchen cupboard or the transporter loading bay doors.
It's impressive in some ways, but many has been the time when this infatuation to detail and process has bit him on the bum. Sometimes (like adjusting pit strategy on the fly) a bit of creativity, risk taking, and downright winging it can be much more effective.

I know that in his kitchen all of the doors are carbon fibre covering the units and when his house was extended he had hundreds of litres of cow's urine poured onto tiles etc so that everything matched.....ie instant ageing!! The man is a perfectionist in many areas but also a control freak!
