Alright fellas, I'm contemplating heading to the last round of the DTM in Hockenheim this October.
Has anyone been to Hockenheim, better still a round of the DTM in Hockenheim, and can recommend a viewing point? I was looking at premium tickets on more or less the last corner, giving a view of the main straight, last corner, second last corner and lead into that...

Do it!! I went over a few years back when Paffet won the championship, we had no tickets, nothing booked and had a belting 2 nights there. We got tickets on the Saturday morning in the grandstand on the left as you enter the stadium complex. Gold tickets, about 45e each, no bother.
It's a great great weekend. We found a campsite within 5 mins walk of the circuit entrance which had a few bars on, live music and decent food. The centre of Hockenheim is about 5 mins in the other direction and we found a great bar run by a lady called Elke.
Needless to say we ended up drinking out of a 6 pint glass shoe which was behind the bar and fitted in fine.
You'll not regret it, and if I had more holiday from work I'd do it again. You also drive passed the 'ring so could try and squeeze in a run round that.
ETA - After qualifying we were both still hungover and tried to get a few hours kip. Got woken by Ummpah music and Status Quo shaking the tents. The locals were great on the site, giving us local beers, coffees, food, it was a real eye-opener with no chavs in sight.

What a fantastic idea! Combined with the Ring that sounds like it could soak up a 5days - week, but surely a superb time. Could even drop in on Spa, which isn't much of a detour on the run down through Belgium. Not sure if there's any racing going on at the same time, but it's worth a look in any event. Perhaps for stands you might want to look at something around the final turn onto the start/finish straight. From there you get a good view down the start/finish straight to Turn 1 with added benefits of seeing all of the stadium complex before the final corner.
