For those that remember the days of Thundersaloons, and other national motorsport in the UK, you may remember Barry Barnes.

Sadly, Barry was very recently taken into the Lions Hospice in Gravesend, Kent, and passed away this morning.

He will be missed as he was a great friend to many, and still loved his racing right to the end - he was hoping to be out with a "new" BMW this year.

That's sad. I remember him racing racing all sorts of cars such as a Sierra Cosworth, Escort RS2000, Toyota Carina E and such like in Production Saloon categories. A real stalwart of national motorsport.

I am really sad to learn that Barry has gone. He was the most dedicated Club driver and a very good engineer, building and maintaining his own cars in a garage at home. Barry helped me and he shared my car in Thundersaloons and I his. He helped me out in National Saloons when we both ran Cossies and we were both involved with developing cars for Saloon 2000.

Barry was a great friend and competitor who bore a very serious illness with amazing calm and in a matter of fact sort of way continued to build his next project right to the end. A really quite remarkable guy who I had hoped to see at Brands Hatch in early September, so sure I was that he had his illness under control. Barry will be much missed and was an example to every enthusiast in the sport.
