Time Attack Results from Knockhill
The Japanese race series is in town
Think about car modifications for one second and you'd probably compile an inventory that reads like a power obsessed street-racer. But hang on, isn't there more to building a fast car than simply loading up more bhp with the help of a turbocharger or two? You're damn right there is, which is why some very clever people in Japan have come up with The Time Attack Series, designed to test a car's blend of power, speed and agility.
Here's what the Time Attack website says:
“The Time Attack Series is a circuit based calendar of events whereby competitors drive hard against the clock to set the quickest lap time around a circuit. Not only do they have the task of doing this but they will be one of 55 cars and drivers, specifically invited with pedigree to fight it out alongside the industries finest, even including some belonging to private individuals.”
Sounds like quite a challenge, and the good news is that you can now have a go - the series has just moved to Blighty. Here are the results from the 3rd stage at Knockhill.
The winners were:

TA finished at around 9pm on Saturday, where most of the competitors packed up and then headed south to compete in TOTB the following day...which was won by 22b.com Team Subaru
the individual title going to Olly Clarke in the RCMS Impreza
The TOTB Team was managed by Steven Darley, who not only competed at TA in the Lateral Performance Impreza but also drove the same car at TOTB, a car which was driven back from Scotland arriving at home at 3am on Sunday only to arrive at Elvington for 8am.
At TOTB the Zen performance car scored points for the team, as did Kevin Horsley in the Scoobyclinic car...oh and Andy Forrest ran a 9.27 quarter to win that side of the event too
The team won with 59 points, 9 clear of the second place MLR, the points coming from:
C71 Olly Clarke (RCMS) Impreza 22b.com Subarus 25
C68 Andy Forrest (Andy Forrest Performance) Impreza 22b.com Subarus 10
C70 John Stevenson Impreza 22b.com Subarus 9
C69 Paul Blamire (Zen Performance) Impreza 22b.com Subarus 7
C73 Singh / Horsley (Scoobyclinic) Impreza 22b.com Subarus 4
C74 Dale Howard Impreza 22b.com Subarus 3
C72 Steven Darley (Lateral Performance) Impreza 22b.com Subarus 1
All in all a damn good weekend for Imprezas

The real result was...Club FI

1st George Orr - EVO 6

2nd Kev Horsley - GC8 Imprezza

3rd Kev Atkins - CP9A Evo 6

The Zen Impreza won the event with some of my roadcar gearbox components in there, as we stripped it in the padock to replace a set of broken drop gears and centre diff in the race car.
Phil's
was stunning.
So its like a race. Don't forget lots of amateur drivers out there, I know of one team who put a professional driver in their car in testing who took 4 seconds off the owner-drivers time at Silverstone.
Its really a buy-it, build-it, race-it competition, a great concept. I'd love to have a go in my drift car with the suspension re-dialled I have no idea how fast it & myself would be but sure would like to find out

I would love to have a go at throwing the S14 around silverstone with a set of slicks and differnet suspension and alignment setup. Would be cool.
If so, what on earth is the "See, not all racing is boring" caption doing in the story?
For the club competitors the final timed session is done with 1 out lap, one timed lap and one in lap, just like the F1 qualy was done until recently.
For the Pro runners, post practice they have a 20 minute open pit qualyfying session, the top 10 fastest lap times get into the final. The final is then another 20 minute sesion where your fastest lap time counts, with all 10 cars on the track at the same time.
The knockhill Pro Final was stunning to watch, although not racing for position, you still have to posses some racecraft to work through the traffic and get the quickest lap in.
