Some possible amendments to the Points Regs, for clarity in 2008?

Your thoughts please people (posted as many mail returned emails came from my original email contact).

Points Regulations
1st place 21 points
2nd place 19 points
3rd place 17 points
4th place 15 points
5th place 13 points
6th place 12 points
7th place 11 points
8th place 10 points
9th place 9 points
10th place 8 points
11th place 7 points
12th place 6 points
13th place 5 points
14th place 4 points
15th place 3 points
16th place 2 points
17th place 1 point

There has to be a minimum of three starters in a class (at First Start of each Race) to gain maximum points, therefore if there were two starters or less in a class, the allocated points would drop by:

2 starters only - 1 position each (2 [corrected]points drop)
1 starter only - 2 positions (4 points [corrected] drop) No fastest lap point.

The car with the fastest lap in each class will get an extra 1 point per class, as long as there are enough cars in that race and in that class. If there are two races, then 1 point per race will be awarded to driver with the fastest lap time. Race one results will provide the grid positions for race two. The car does not need to complete the race to attain a fastest lap point.

Points are allocated via the cars that make the Grid for the (first) start (inc Pit lane) of the actual race. No-shows do not count. Failures during the race do not affect points. Ie three cars start, one fails causing re-start, then one fails on penultimate lap. The remaining car gets full points inc fastest lap if achieved.

Substitute Drivers are permitted if holding the proper licences/accreditation if agreed to by all the drivers and authorities. The driver should qualify if time permits and can achieve grid position, if not they must start from the back of the grid.

Racing in Class.
A Driver can only attain points in his registered Group. Ie Group A Driver cannot attain Group B points, even if driving a Group B car. (Why would he want to?)

A car cannot drop a class, ie a Group A car cannot contest Class B, B cannot contest C etc.

A Driver CAN contest his Group in a lower Group car…if entered correctly (see below).

This should be declared prior to start and a late change should be agreed to by all contesting drivers. Or the original class rule applies. Therefore, if a Group A driver wishes to contest A in a Group B car, he should enter as such. If he has entered in Group A with a Group A car, he would need approval from all drivers in the relevant Classes (A+B) to run Group A with a Group B car. If entered in the Program (entering Group A with a Group B/C) car no approval is needed.

Points are only allocated to correct (on the day) Race Entries (not entries) and Registered Series Drivers.

Trophy's are to remain with those that they were presented to. Any discrepencies discovered later should be approved by the series Officials and agreed via the points table. Some Spare trophies could be kept as part of the Sponsorship as blanks, so that the correct recipients can recive some silverware. Any correct entry can run for Silverware.

Finally, the points tables are to be completed by an impartial party (Don Hastie if he will do it???) via the Official results and subject to the above. Any grievances are to be inwriting to the points co-ordinator and to be agreed with Him prior to the next race. That thrid party cannot be expected to complete the series tables without proper rules/guidlines.

A.

Help me out here buddy....

Points Regulations
1st place 21 points
2nd place 19 points
3rd place 17 points
4th place 15 points
5th place 13 points
6th place 12 points
7th place 11 points
8th place 10 points
9th place 9 points
10th place 8 points
11th place 7 points
12th place 6 points
13th place 5 points
14th place 4 points
15th place 3 points
16th place 2 points
17th place 1 point

There has to be a minimum of three starters in a class (at First Start of each Race) to gain maximum points, therefore if there were two starters or less in a class, the allocated points would drop by:

2 starters only - 1 position each (4 points drop)
1 starter only - 2 positions (6 points drop) No fastest lap point.

  • ***************************************************
1st place 21 points
2nd place 19 points
3rd place 17 points

Surely if only two starters gives a 1 position drop; they should only lose 2 points not 4? (I.e; 21 points down to 19 etc)

Here are my pennies worth.....

1. Why so bloody complicated?
2. Why does someone who turns up get penalised (in the points) if others in the class don't turn up?

For example: If there is only 1 car in class C all year the driver loses 2 points at every race!!! 14 races = -28 points. Why? He has bothered to turn up
for Pete's sake (although his name might be Dave or Alan of course; lol).

So.... why not make it simple (for people like me and sponsors/punters alike)...

1st in class = 21 points
2nd in class = 19 points
3rd in class - 17 points

etc; etc..

Fastest lap in class = 1 point

Pole in class = 1 point

... and that's it!

Then if there is only 1 car in a class they can only gain a 2 point advantage overall for the challenge trophy. But at least they get something for turning out rather than a penalty!

You have to do something to counter a lack of entries in a particular class. Its quite common in most championships that have a multi class structure...

for example i you have one class with 10 cars and one with 1 car. without a points drop all the guy with one car in class has to do is turn up where as the other class there are 9 cars to beat.

Its still quite feasible for the guy in the one car class to win as he needs to finish !!! but can guarantee an effective 3rd in class if he finishes.

Where adding extra points for things like fastest lap and pole. the difference between 2nd with additional points should always be worth at least 1 point less an outright win with no additional points, so its always worth fighting for the extra place. IT becomes too much of a strategy game otherwise.

AS it has turned out this year If pembrey is rejigged I don't think we end up with any points drop due to low numbers so its only really a contingency.

The current structure has very low points differences to keep things tight all the way to the end. If you's had 5 points for f/l I'd have wrapped up last season about half way through and not needed any wins ;-) where as it was it went to the wire at the last race...

IMHO I also think its important that the points go all the way to the last finisher, as it gives the guys scrapping over the last few places something to fight for in the overall standings.. and to me its important that everyone has something to aim for...

no worries..
when you look at some stuff in isolation some times it doesnt make sense untill you look at the whole picture and the explanation of why it was done.

Looking back at the old tvrcc regs when it first went to 2 classes well ok 2 + invitation...

there was a rule that you could swap from a to b or b to a once only per season, and your points were split between the 2 classes as you earnt them and you were also listed Separately in the overall standing with the total of both... confusing but that was the fairest way. There are also a couple of occasions where a lowerclass car was substituted inplace of a higher class car but still run in the higher class so not to mess up the points table. the same that was originally done this season!!!

The reason for the 1 swap only rule was to stop the guys with turbo cars and adjustable power winding them up or down to swap classes where they had the best chance at different races. ( although to be honest I doubt any one would have ever bothered)
