"Hamilton Bandwagon?"

I have just read someone on another post refer to the 'Hamilton Bandwagon' (without mentioning names).

This is something I have heard a few times now and it's beginning to bother me!

Surely it is a good thing to be supporting a British driver in a British car! Why is it that anyone who says anything encouraging about him is now being labelled as jumping on the bandwagon?

Ah, that'll be because we are English & carry the tradition of kicking anyone who's seen to be successful squarely in the nuts.

Personally, I think Hamilton is phenomenal & has brought a sense of occasion and excitement back to F1 that has been sorely lacking for at least the last 10 years.

The British tradition to be initally gleeful, then cynically critical, or our heroes.

If they are good men underneath, I believe it polishes them up to be better men, rather than the lesser examples (say footballers) who look for the P Diddy route in Heathrow.

You might have been referring to my post about naming a dog "Lewie" in honour of Hamilton.

I'm not sure how you can read something negative into it at all.

It was not meant in any derogatory way whatsoever. I am a die-hard F1 fan, although I don't support McLaren at all - but I think it's great that Lewis has come in and given F1 a good old shake up - something which was needed desperately in the post-schuey era.

I was afraid we'd have the same-old same-old Alonso/Raikkonen battle, but in reality it's anything but - which is exciting.

In my opinion there is a Hamilton bandwagon, whether you like it or not, where he's flavour of the month - although in reality this will be for a year or 2.

He's an advertisers and marketeers dream come true - how is that negative?

As much as it pains the motoring / motor sport snob in me every time a non-car person strikes up a conversation about Lewis, it is refreshing that there's now a massive buzz around the sport this season. He doesn't seem like a particularly interesting person - but then which sports person does? I like the way he's managed to upset Alonso though, and it's not just through the speed of his driving, there's definitely been a few subtle things said and done designed to wind the spaniard up.

I think he's fantastic, I think he's the real deal. I hope he can keep up with his initial promise. I still think he'll be lucky to win the championship this year, but there's got to be multiple champion of the future.

Recon there's a better phrase yet to be penned.
Years ago someone coined the phrase ROCK N ROLL. More recently someone else penned PUNK ROCK.Then there was SUPERMODELS and BINGE DRINKING. These have become classics and are part of our culture.
When this F1 season got going I tried to find a discriptor that would fit the bill and find its way into common language. Im still trying. Its out there, maybe something like..Hami-Hype? Well, some wordsmith will get it.

Does it really matter what he's like as a person, I couldn't care less what he's like in person. I don't want to introduce him to my family, take him for a beer or go on holiday with him.
He's English, a good driver, who's likely to be world champion if not this year then next.

Mansell was a prick out of the car, but simply stunning inside one, 110% all the time, great to watch. Maybe Hamilton will be similar, being stunning to watch in the car, but too much of a grey McLaren Executive out of it...

Look what happens when a McLaren driver dares to ogo aganinst the grain... Montoya and Kimi know all too well.

Funny really, McLaren had a survey done last winter to see how the public saw the team and the answer was very cold and grey, and Ron said he would change all this - well I have not seen much of that yet!!

the fact of the matter is you have already made up your mind, you think he "seems like a tosser" and though you say he is welcome to prove you wrong, you know he will never get the chance or more importantly, whatever he "does", will never quite be enough for you to change your opinion. you seem like a tosser, i have no evidence to back this up but in your argument, that doesnt seem to matter, maybe you will dosomethingt o make me change my opinion, or maybe you wont....

carry on living in your sad little hate-filled world, i cant imagine what he has done to make you regard him as a tosser, i have watched most races this season and have seen a good driver, a nice bloke off the track and someone who seems determined to do a good job in light of immense pressure.

Just a few points so i dont babble on too long...

Thing's he's said... 'those monkeys at the back' 'god is with me in the car(did god not let you love thy neighbour when yuo were meant to let him pass?)' 'ayrton senna is with me in the car' 'you can f**king swivel (to ron dennis)' 'I should have the same respect as a 2 time world champion' etc

For a guy who hasnt said much, he's said a lot of poo. He's got no character, F1 has room for villains, heroes and even an old moaner like Mansell. Lewis is... well... what is there? His driving skills are obvious, but when else is there for fans to invest in so they can say 'he's my fave'

Never ever said I hated him, and I never said he IS a tosser. I said he seems like a tosser and gave the reasons why my opinion became this way. I admire him as a driver, and as previously posted, I am open to influence and awaiting more insights into him.

I'm not sure if you're labelling of me makes your world full of hate also? But maybe in time you'll see more of my character so that you can expand your view on me.... while i might seem like a tosser, in time you can learn if I am a tosser or just a guy with different views to your own.
